Surrounded by lush mountains, Linz is on the Danube River, and although known for industry, has become a vibrant cultural hub. It was an important centre of the Holy Roman Empire and Emperor Friedrich III lived in the castle.
The old town centres on Main Square, site of the Christmas market and elaborate Trinity Column. St Martin’s Church is Austria’s oldest, and the largest is the new cathedral, much more elaborate than the old cathedral. On the surrounding streets are shops, restaurants and much of Booking.com’s Linz accommodation, including luxury city centre hotels and cheap guest houses near the train station.
A riverside park contains the Lentos modern art museum, colourfully lit at night. The excellent arts scene also encompasses the Linzer Landestheater, Brucknerhaus concert hall and the Ars Electronica Center which hosts its own festival.
The Design Center Linz event venue is near the industrial powerhouse – the Voestalpine steelworks, whose tour showcases the factory once supervised by Hermann Göring. A more chilling World War II reminder is Mauthausen concentration camp to the south-east.
Across the river are Johannes Kepler University and Pöstlingberg mountain, ascended by a tram that passes the zoo. At the top are a viewing platform, church and the children’s Grotto Railway, and south-west is Linz Blue Danube Airport.

we arrived on Sunday, it was bad for us because nothing was working from the shops, at 2 and 3 in the afternoon there are only a few restaurants where you can eat but really tasty and not so expensive.

Linz is an industrial town but has made a supreme effort to transform into a modern, smart city. It hosts many festivals, including the famous Ars Electronika in September. The tourist information is fine, although check if your festival badge includes free transportation for the duration of your stay. I paid for a Linz card, but I didn't really need it unless you take the Postlingberg tram to the nearby mountain.

I had a beautiful time.
I had a beautiful time. It remains a family favourite destination. In particular, my recently deceased mother loved to visit Linz as a child with her Austrian side of the family. My Hungarian parents met in Australia 65 years ago, were 62 years married, and regularly praised the dog friendly eateries in Linz. My second visit and I share their view. Hope to return. x😇😘+

Town Lido is a great place to cool off on a hot day - suitable for all. The complex has 2 kids pools, a 50m lane pool, a diving pool and 50m+ adult pool.

A very nice city, not as busy as Vienna or Salzburg, but we really liked it here. I recommend visiting the cathedral, it is very beautiful. Other main attractions were also interesting, especially seeing the Ars Electronica Center at night. I also recommend taking the tram to Pöstlingberg, there are nice views of the whole city.
As a restaurant, I recommend the typically Austrian Stiegl-Klosterhof. They cook excellently here and we also had a nice chat with the staff.

Linz is an industrial city, but has a beautiful old and cozy center. You won't find mass tourism, but this city on the Danube is quite interesting with some nice locations, such as the Hauptplatz and the riverside promenade. There is a very nice museum, Lentos, with an interesting collection including Schiele and Kokoschka.
We received a room upgrading just for 20 euros for a junior suite on the top with infinitive panorama window. Minibar was inclusive. Price was half we would have paid in Salzburg. We stopped in Linz because it is in the middle of our way to Tirol skiing. Second time we chosed this hotel and we will do so also next time. Parking garage under the hotel. Receptionists are excelent. They didn't want to accept the tip. We left one baggage at the public parking and they called us.
We passed through Linz and booked 1 night @ Hotel Schillerpark.
We loved that they provide a 24 hour service, have private parking, quiet area for a good night sleep, even though very close to all amnesties.
Also, very important for us it’s one of the few places which are pet friendly, so we could enjoy the stay along with our little bishon frisé, Daisy. 🐶
The staff was welcoming and the rooms cosy, the sleep super comfortable.
You get what you pay for. Everything was very professional from the late night checking to the great breakfast.
Room was clean and spotless. Bed was marvelous and my wife now wants to know their pillows brand cause it was so good to sleep on. There were water, juice and beer in the fridge with some Austrian waffles to take. Overall we got a great sleep and great breakfast - perfect for one night stay on your trip to Alps.
The room size was amazing. Two bathrooms and a large comfortable bed, 2 tv's was great and I loved the view from the balcony in the Junior Suite. Located close to a park and public transport. Used Linz as a hub to get to Mauthausen Concentration Camp and Cesky Krumlov. The facilities and breakfast at the hotel were second to none and will stay here again the next time I pass through Linz.
Excellent choice for our particular need: a 1-night accommodation while transiting Austria by car on A1 - A8.
The room was very clean, the beds were confortable. and the breakfast just great.
There is a large parking space around the hotel.
The room price was reasonable: not expensive, but also not on the budget side. If one counts in the free parking, the value for money was good enough.
Large size room with good office desk so that you can work properly (that's why I booked it) and modern style hotel. I book this hotel since years whenever I have business to do in Linz. It's outside the city center but I like the modern style of the hotel & the free parking. Breakfast is good quality even if the choice is limited. Friendly & helpful staff. Good value for money.
The hotel is well design in Yang atmosphere.
The room designed to suprise the customers immediately after opening the front door.
I recommend to book the view to the dom.
The designer thought of everything to be clean and comfort and all that in 20 sq'm.
Location very near to center and old city 5 minute walk.
Stuff very nice and helpful.
Perfect from all points of view - staff, breakfast, room, surroundings, free coffee during the day, and the city center is less than 30 minutes by walk. My only regret is that we only spent one night in Linz.
Although the hotel offers paid parking place, there were also free parking spots on the streets nearby
Located in the center of the city, this hotel is quite close to the old city center as well. However, expect a 15-20 minutes walk till you get to the old Rathaus or the Mozart Haus.
The breakfast was very good, abundant and diversified. The staff was very friendly.
An interesting hotel in the form of self-service, apart from breakfast, there is a staff. Breakfast standard, nothing special. An excellent location for sleeping while transiting through Linz. Comfortable beds, good option for parking.
My stay at Ibis style linz was kinda ok.
The best thing that I can remember from my stay was the breakfast, fresh and complete every morning with great variety of sweet and savoury.
Staff was always nice and helpful.
eee Traum is one of our favourite hotels in Linz for our guests. Clean, quiet, uncomplicated checkin/out, free parking, proximity to our company headquarter...When availability allows, this is our first choice of stay.
The staff were so friendly. Very comfortable & clean. The property was gorgeous authentic Austrian. I have done a lot of travelling across all continents and this is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in.
Great location, near the train station. It was a very standard IBIS hotel, clean, comfortable and good value for money. We did not have breakfast at the hotel, so not able to rate that.
Everything. It was the perfect choice for what I needed. The trains in Austria were backed up that weekend and I ended up in Linz by complete accident and I needed a place to stay.
I liked my room. The location of the hotel is fine, but it’s not right in the center of Linz. You can walk there though. There’s also a bus stop right in front of the hotel.
