Art Hotel Kalelarga, hotel in Zadar

Within the UNESCO-protected Venetian walls in the heart of ancient Zadar, Art Hotel Kalelarga is located on the main promenade called Kalelarga.

Location was perfect. A stones throw from the peoples square in historic old town and apart from the street cleaners exceptionally quiet at night. Bathroom was large with large shower, window. 10 times better value and than the other more expensive hotel we stayed at.

FAQs about hotels in Zadar

Dalmatias Historical Heart

Tucked away on the crystal blue waters of the Adriatic Sea and surrounded by small archipelago, Zadar is sprinkled with Romanesque architecture, medieval churches and protected by 16th century fortifications and high walls.

As the waves crash along the shores, the sea organ will play its harmonic sounds and welcome you to Zadar’s lively and charming Old Town, located across from the mainland. It is lined with marble walkways, landmarks, fascinating museums, and priceless archives.

It is home to the National Museum, Five Wells Square, the 14th-century University of Zadar, and the Roman Forum which features the 9th-century St Donatus' Church and 12th-century St. Mary's Church.

Stroll along the pretty tree-lined promenades and enjoy a meal in the several cafés, restaurants and bars which line Zadar's streets. Visit the popular Peoples Square in the district Narodni trg and shop in the Mercator Centar or City Galleria.

Booking.com has accommodation options in Zadar and across the coastline in cities such as Bibinje, Petrcane and Sukošan. Zadar Airport links the city to several European destinations.

There are few shops in the city, you have to walk a lot, there are few restaurants and they are expensive. The beach is clean, the beach is stony, not sandy. The old town is pleasant, with many bars and cafes.

Zadar is a beautiful historic city with a lovely old town, seaside promenade, and unique attractions like the sea organ. Getting around is easy on foot. I enjoyed the local seafood and wine. The only downside was the crowds during peak tourist season, so I'd recommend visiting in the shoulder seasons.

Zadar is a very easy city to get around on foot and mainly flat. The sea organ was amazing, just so different. People were friendly and the majority of people spoke good English. It has a very Italian influence in their food in the restaurants.

Lovely Old Town, pretty and packed with history.

Lovely Old Town, pretty and packed with history. Beautiful location, even more so in the evening/night. Easy and inexpensive to visit islands and nearby towns using local ferries and buses. Friendly people. Excellent, plentiful and well-priced restaurants and bars. Favourites were Dalmatina (fish/seafood), L'Osteria (seafood), Pizzeria Tri Bunara (worth the queue), Coffee & Cake (breakfast) and Konoba Tovar (goulash). Fave bars include The Trooper Bar (beer/metal), Deja Brew (beer) and Zlatni Kutic (people watching). Cheap, plentiful, quality seafood, bakery produce and fruit & veg from the market. Visited the usual spots including monastery and museums. Particularly enjoyed the vista from the Bell Tower, compact old town and narrow streets, city views and vibe, "green" market, Sea Organ, harbour area, park, eating and drinking, and people-watching.

Zadar is a great city for a short break.

Zadar is a great city for a short break. I stayed for 4 nights which was just enough. Old town has lots of history, beautiful buildings, shops, restaurants and bars. It has a lovely waterfront promenade and a beach is walkable. Many excursions available and also a 15 minute ferry ride to the nearby island is very cheap. Taxi from airport is reasonably priced and I took bus back there for 5 euros.

Everything was perfect: free parking, sparkly clean room, a superb view to the Adriatic Sea which we got to admire from our own (huge) private terrace, the pool. The owner is really nice and gave us an upgrade of the room we initially booked and also some useful travel advice. We also got to meet Blinks, the very cute dog that "guards" the property. It is true that you have to walk about 30 min, or 15 min+cheap boat to get to the city center, but the hotel area is far more quiet and relaxing.

Great Hotel, fast check in, friendly and helpful staff throughout, Our room was clean spacious with full facilities plus a balcony that overlooked the gardens and the sea. There is a good variety for breakfast. The hotel is about 15 minutes walk to Zadar old town and 2 minutes from the beach. The hotel has an excellent pool bar and lobby bar. The pool itself is good and there is a separate children's paddling pool. The Kolovare is a business and holiday hotel, professionally run.

The best value on our entire trip through Croatia. Spacious, beautifully designed and furnished room equipped with everything you could need. It felt like a stay in a brand new 4-star hotel. Private parking was available, small but sandy (total rarity here) beach only minutes on foot from the property. The owner was super nice and greeted us on arrival. I couldn't want anything more from an accommodation like this. I wholeheartedly recommend this to anyone :)

There is a bakery right across the street for morning coffee and breakfast. The kitchen is equipped with everything if you decided to cook your own meal. Really lovely apartment in the heart of old town. The owner was amazing and went out of her way to let us in early to drop our bags and also allow us to leave the bags a bit longer on the last day. The bed was really spacious (only 1.8m I have seen in Croatia on our travel). Apartment has everything you need and a really nice couch to hang out. Zadar is amazing and worth a visit. The location of the apartment just in the center of the old town of Zadar. With all the restaurants and shops just downstairs. Big size studio and has AC and kitchen. It was comfortable for me to get changed and move around the old town and get to thr hotel. There was not that noise as i read on other comments, i just closed both windows and slept.
