Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe facilities in the room sound simple and not in the 5 star standard , particularly in Barth room.
The hotel lies between the bay and hills and it is like a unique castle. It looks magnificent and spacious and the rooms are quite big indeed.

United KingdomWe couldn’t get a spot in the spa despite staying for two nights. It would help if they auto reserved a spot
Lovely building lots of character, great breakfast and lovely staff especially the lady on reception over the weekend who helped us book a taxi, the barman and the gentleman who was on the dinner and breakfast service. Staff made a big fuss of our dog.

United KingdomThe bedroom was a bit cold but a wall mounted heater provided for the guest to turn on. Chambermaid not fully up to the mark. Guests nightwear left strewn across bed. Half used plastic cup left unemptied etc.
A lot of good points. Great location overlooking Morecambe Bay with nice gardens, good parking and walking distance to the town centre, ornamental gardens and promenade. 1 hour walk to Hampsfell via Eggerslack Wood. Restaurant service was diligent and food well prepared. Reception top drawer. Bed comfortable and not much noise from other guests.

United KingdomStyle and decor was incredible, however certain parts need updating. Carpets just look so old and gross, also the big sofa in reception needs either replacing or re-upholstering. I get it’s probably original and cost a fortune in its day but It looks gross, didn’t want to sit on it whilst waiting. Restaurant menu is far too basic, no steak on the menu at all?? I guess it might appeal to the ancient clientele but no good for us. And they had no chicken by 7pm Sunday. Shame we paid for meals as we didn’t want to eat from here more than once. Bar food was actually better but still too limited. Lastly the bedding was awful. Clean sure but duvet was far too heavy duty for the time of year, and the polyester or whatever that and the pillows are made of just get hot immediately. Terrible nights sleeps because of this, should have brought our own. Ended up leaving a day early because we couldn’t bear another night. Posh hotel should have down duvets/pillows. All easily fixable though, lovely place otherwise!
Fantastic staff, super friendly, professional and nothing was too much (they were constantly dealing with Karen’s at reception whenever we went past..). The place is gorgeous, view upon arrival is incredibly impressive - mrs was blown away. And the square hedges! Loved it. Also love that it was pet friendly, a good amount of doggos there :D

United KingdomI have already said the room was clean but the decor was a little tired. I was told it was one of 3 rooms waiting to be refurbished. Sadly the view was out back of the hotel but all hotels have rooms with no view and there were the options of the lounge, library and bar to sit in.
Dinner -the restaurant food was fabulous. Plenty of choice for anyone there several nights. I was there on a Dinner, Bed and Breakfast deal and the £35 dinner allowance was enough for a 3 course meal (drinks not include). Breakfast - was buffet style but all nicely cooked and presented and put out in small containers but replenished regularly so as not to go stale/dry out . The building itself and the grounds are great, nice terraces in the garden which I'm sure are well used in the summer. The restaurant and breakfast room are well kept and offer terrific views over the grounds and the bay. Apart from the bar there is a lounge and a library where you can just go and chill after a meal and if you are really lucky someone might just play the grand piano for a while. The room was always cleaned, the bed was comfortable and the central heating worked perfectly. Lots of nice features in the room - old brass door locks, nice casement windows etc.
