The hotel is sort of cheap and cheerful and more could be made of it with a bit of work. Shower was awkward and bathroom door a sort of pull thing. Rustic is a good word for it.

The folks working at hotel were good. The hotel is a bit rustic but sort of fun. The breakfast was very nice. Would stay again.

It could have been a little cleaner as there was a fair bit of dust laying in our room. You could tell that the place was very old and has a rich history, this left the place looking very dated and tired.

food was good and at a good price. Breakfast was good value for money. The open fire in the bar was cosy and gave the place real character.

No toiletries, had to hunt down a loo roll.

Good base for exploring the Dales, hotel was pretty basic but clean and comfortable, good breakfast included. Lively pub, restaurant food ok, friendly staff. Quiet room, we didn't hear the pub noise.

The plumbing was awful. The pump toilet rarely worked properly. A sign above the toilet advise d to use another toilet along the corridor if there was a problem. This bathroom already had someone in it, together with their toiletries and underwear!. - and no toilet paper either!!! The shower proved a losing battle, starting and stopping by a different sequence each time it was used.

Great location and a lovely setting. A very old and quirky pub. Loved the sloping floors. Friendly staff.

Room really needs a good refurb. (Rm10) Badly cracked sink in shower room and general decorating. Bedside lamp not plugged in and on inspection it looked like cable had been trapped and had blown, so didn't plug it in. Really not worth the £90 per night, expect much better for the price.

Friendly staff, good location. Comfortable bed, had good nights sleep. Great beer.

Unfortunately my room unable to open windows, I'm a fell runner and like fresh air, shower not good. In fairness, I could have requested a move.

All the staff were excellent, especially William, nothing too much all pleasant and friendly. Breakfast was excellent. Unfortunately I had to cut short my stay due to a family problem, but I will return!

Windows were screwed shut - they would not open. Bedside lights didn't work - the socket was loose. Comfy chair in bedroom broken. The venue appeared 'tired' and in need of decoration.

Food very good and good value for money. The staff were helpful, friendly and welcoming. Good location and a good pub atmosphere - good beer!

The shower was a weak trickle until we cleaned the shower head which made it passable but not to the flow one would desire. A pity that shower toiletries are not provided, but as we were aware of that from visit the previous year we had brought our own.

Excellent breakfast and dinners served by the very helpful and friendly William. Only wanted light lunch on one occasion, and though past the lunch serving time we were served our choice.

We stayed in a room that accommodated dogs, that given it would be nice if the room was given a little attention, just to help make the stay a little more comfortable.

Location excellent, the staff are brilliant, extremely helpful and knowledgeable. The pub is 700yrs old so it’s not polished but it’s comfortable and clean. It is dog friendly. The facilities were tired and old and could do with some updating and repairs. The pub serves food, the menu isn’t vast but it’s tasty and good value for money. They do have vegetarian options available. If your standards are high then this is not the place for you, but if you like a nice pint are easy going then this is good value. If you have issues with mobility then this is not for you as all rooms are up a small flight of stairs.
