Don’t do what I did and book a boat tour from Hanoi. Let them help you book a tour so that you get out before the crowds arrive ( and it’s cheaper) . I borrowed a bike and cycled along the coast, went to the museum (excellent) and saw the fish market.

The owner was always willing to help and to give us advice! He booked the boat trip for us as well as the transfers and everything worked out really good. The home-made meals were delicious and the place was lovely. Everything was great, totally recommended!
