FAQs about hotels in Weimar

German Cultural Heart

Weimar is not only a charming town in central Germany, but it has also been an important cultural centre for almost 3 centuries. Home to artists like Goethe, Schiller, Liszt, Bach and Strauss, the city's legacy is only comparable to the beauty of its idyllic surroundings.

It was between 1758 and 1828, during the regencies of Duchess Anna Amalia and her son Duke Carl August, that the town became the capital of German Enlightenment. In 1919, it saw the founding of the Bauhaus movement by Walter Gropius, and the sessions of the Constitutional Assembly of the so-called Weimar Republic.

It has numerous places that have been listed as UNESCO World Heritage sites, and it was the European Capital of Culture in 1999. Some of the best Weimar hotels are located in the south, particularly near the German National Theatre, Goethe’s house, and the City Palace.

The city is also famous for its ‘Onion Market’, held every year in October. If you’re planning to come to Weimar during the festival, check the hotel availability with enough time in advance.

The local railway station has express lines linking to Frankfurt, Dresden and Berlin. The nearest airports are Erfurt Airport and Leipzig/Halle Airport. Whether you’re looking for cheap accommodation or 5-star hotels, check out the Weimar deals on Booking.com!

I loves the atmosphere in the city of Weimar, full of culture and magic. Its streets and squares are just beautiful. The “Park an der Ilm” is a wonderful place to relax, walk and feel a bit more of the cultural spirit of Weimar with Goethe’s Gartenhaus and Franz Liszt’s house as well as many other monuments and statues. The nature is amazing there, definitely a place of inspiration for poetry and music. My favourite city in Germany!

Historically really remarkable city for Germany and entire world! Given its fame I expected it to be much larger than it is now. But still enjoyed the city with places and houses, where many great composers, poets, and philosophers used to stay.

I didn't do justice to Weimar's historic sites, largely as I commuted several times to a nearby city for other matters. The park along the Ilm river is definitely worth a visit; at its far end (looking from the city), the bee museum is a pleasant place that may be especially worthwhile for families with kids. The museum for prehistoric history of Thuringia was also a worthwhile stop. The nearby expansive historical cemetery is a good destination for those who generally have an appreciation for such places. Distinguished families, some of whose surnames may be well-known to visitors with relevant background, have their final resting places, sometimes in a row, at the edge of the cemetery and I think also elsewhere. The area near the railway station (still south of it) has some nice spots. I especially liked a bakery there. Prices lower than in my hometown, and very good bread and rolls. This suggests to me generally that even in a city with many tourists, it is not bad to look at the more quiet areas (which are still in easy walking distance from the main drawcards of the city in the case of Weimar) to get a smile and perhaps to save a few coins. One may even get advice on what to do! If you depend on supermarkets while traveling, it may be worthwhile locating them early on before or during your trip and to be aware that they may close at 9pm (not all do though).

All the museums provide audio guides, some of them are with free entrance. Everything is located in walking distance to each other. One needs at least 2 entire days to visit all the museums without exploring nice nature or park. A (entire) 3 days trip would be perfect!

Weimar is a great small city packed with history and I certainly could have done with another day or two there. There is plenty for fans of classic German history (Schiller and Goethe) plus more modern times (Weimar Republic, New Weimar and Bauhaus for example) and everything is walkable. Also the Germany Bee Museum!

The flat was spotlessly clean and the beds were exceedingly comfortable. Everything that we might have needed was included. It's just a few steps north of the historical center of Weimar and in easy walking distance to everything. The beds were a type of mix between supported foam and waterbeds, something that I had not experienced before. However, they are made in such a way that the water doesn't slosh at all, and they were heavenly to sleep on.

Quiet neighborhood about a 10-minute bus ride from Weimar Hbf, a 3-minute walk from the bus stop, and a 5-minute walk to the Old Town. Breakfast offered a good selection of food. Staff was very friendly. Elevator available. In the entrance area, there are three steps down to get to the elevator.

If you walk out the front door, you are in the middle of old town, with all interesting sights only a few minutes away. Hotel interior is quite decent, although lacks charm of really old building, it is more comfortable though. Room was not very big, but comfortable and very clean. Breakfast selection - nothing to complain about. Overall, would return to this place when visiting Weimar.

This is an old-fashioned apartment with a double and a single room sharing a bathroom and a "kitchen". The double room is large and comfortable and it overlooks one of the main squares in central Weimar. With the market square just a minute away and Goethe's house three doors down, this is truly an unbeatable location.

The authenticity of 19 century charm and the stateliness of the modern conveniences (plumbing, faucets, strong water pressure) and most of all a very comfortable bed with eiderdown insured a great sleep. The hotel has been restored in a very gracious and elegant manner.
