You can choose to stay in central higher end hotels or cheaper options on the periphery but tuktuks only cost about 700rps from one end to the other. Perhaps 1500rps in the evening. We preferred staying outside the main area because it was much quieter but so easy to walk into town along the beautiful beach.

Hikkaduwa is big village and it has two beaches: near the village center (beach called Hikkaduwa) and further south stretching to Dodanduwa (this beach is called Narigama).
