I have stayed before a year ago, and stayed in the forest room this time, which was renovated and so fresh and slick inside. The beach is amazing at low and high tide, and those magical sunsets. The staff down in the restaurant and bar are amazing so attentive and friendly and that bar on the beach is lovely.

In general, the hotel was okay, with an excellent location.
In general, the hotel was okay, with an excellent location. However, there were some issues to address:
The breakfast had a good variety of food, but unfortunately, warm items were cold. When I requested my sausages to be reheated, they were returned cold, accompanied by a surprised question about wanting them hot. It would be better if the staff anticipated the preference for warm breakfast items.
The bed was so uncomfortable, causing back pain every morning. I tried all sides of mattress, and anyways there was a pit regardless of the position. This might be specific to only my bed, but it needs attention.
The restaurant offers good food at reasonable prices, and the waiters speaks good English and are polite ( except trainees)
Cleanless! Room was clean and tide, but there were several diferent bugs around, but its Africa, you just need to ask to spray your room for bugs (i asked but they never did) and you need to ask for wc paper and ask for clean towels. Water pression in the shower and hot water was very good.
Unfortunately AC didnt wor for last 2 nights. I guess a gas just finished, but noone came to check on it, just excuses about low voltage. Well, when voltage was low even fridge was not working, bet when voltage restored AC and fridge worked excellent. Water got frozen in the fridge in 1h - so thats not a low voltage at all.
Despite the issues, I tought I would consider to come back, but after last 2 nights struggles, I doubt about it.
Particularly I would suggest a room with a sea view and small private pool, keeping in mind that perfection may not exist in every aspect, especially in a place like Zanzibar.

The internet is going to tell you Kendwa has the most beautiful beach in Zanzibar....it has not....not at all....yes, the beach is nice and wide and white.....but there is no vegetation at all, it's full of sunbeds and umbrellas from the resorts/hotels....way to many traders and not much to offer than going up and down, only to then retreat to your hotel or some place with shade....if you come here for drinks or a party, fine, but don't waste all of your vacation here, when there are many other cheaper and more beautiful places on the island...

Kendwa beach in its self is one of the best I have been too and I have been a regular beach traveller worldwide for the last 40 years. The only advice I would suggest would be to vet the hotel thoroughly as sunseabar was not upto standard it advertised. Go out into local restaurants we tried 4 different ones all were superb so far superior to the hotel

Clean, small and quiet guest house right on the beach!
Clean, small and quiet guest house right on the beach! They welcome you with a delicious fresh tropical juice! It is nice to see local people and fishermen living just next door. In the other hand thou, the front sea is full of boats that make swimming a bit complicated. The staff is very kind. Rooms are sober but clean and furnitures are nicely wooden. Breakfast is in range(no buffet, no choice) but good. Very much recommended place. I would definitely return there.

Kendwa is the perfect beach holiday.
Kendwa is the perfect beach holiday.
This is the only area bot effected by tides.
The beach is wonderful and offers great places to eat. Kendwa rocks offers a great BBQ with live entertainment on Saturdays.
This place is a hidden gem! We totally enjoyed our stay and cannot wait to be back! The staff went above and beyond to make our stay unforgettable. The hotel's restaurant offered delicious food and the menu was so diverse that we didn't have to look elsewhere for food options. The only other place recommended to us for food was the Lebanese Cuisine, which is also owned by Sunseabar Beach Hotel. If you are planning a trip to Zanzibar, you have to try this place. Ask for the manager, Al Pacino, he'll take care of you!
Good location, though access is not immediate.
They have a partnership with Kendwa Rocks Hotel and for 20 USD you can enjoy their pool and beach sunbeads.
The restaurant is very good. Great food with normal price range. Good breakfast as well.
They are worried about the quality of the stay and ask for feedback at the moment, which gives guests the opportunity to communicate if something is not going so well and they try to improve / meet your needs, which happened to us.
The staff was so helpful, we arrived at midnight and they were waiting for us to greet us and show us the amenities offered by the hotel. The management went above and beyond to make sure we spent a lovely vacation. The rooms were clean, the food was top notch, and the view was AMAZING!! You cannot beat the location of Lazy Beach hotel, especially the breathtaking views from the rooftop restaurant.
The serenity Kendwa offered was excellent. I relaxed like never before. Kendwa is tucked away from the hustle and bustle... offering a gentle breeze off the ocean. You're easily within walking distance to the beach.
The staff included Bertha (excellent chef), Aminieli (concierge) and host/proprietor Carlos really went out of their way to make one feel at home. Much love to the entire crew!
hotel is not every big, which can make you easy to approch every place whatever reception, restaurant or beach, very convenient, every staff are friendly, especially Beatrice give me more info before booking to make me make final decision staying at this hotel. some supprises like beach dinner and decoration in room make us very enjoy the time at kendwa.thanks, thanks to you all.

• The hotel features a great pool, sun loungers, and a restaurant.
• The hotel was very clean, and housekeeping did a great job throughout, giving public areas and corridors a pleasant fresh smell.
The hotel is located near the sea.
The private beach described in the offer is only a few ruined beds with the remains of canopies.
The hotel is clean, the service is very nice.
Breakfast at a nearby restaurant.
Frequent power outages.
A very well organized hotel with very friendly and helpful staff, cozy decorated and wonderful facilities. Definitely worth it and recommended for everyone visiting Kendwa, and Zanzibar overall, aiming for a peaceful and chilled vacations!
Everything, the service, the staff but most of all the food was exceptional. The depth, breadth, quality and sheer variety and extent of the food was extraordinary - we loved the meals particularly the gala night. A perfect hotel.
Perfect location, amazing beach (better than Nungwi), the SPA massages are very good, the sunset is breathtaking (sunset is exactly in front of the hotel, in the sea horizon) and the restaurant very good!
The hotel's location is great. Close to the most beautiful beach in Zanzibar. & the pool is beautiful. Abdul at reception was VERY helpful to get us into a really great, popular restaurant in the area.
Salama house is close to Kendwa beach, just 10 min walk. Adriana and Salu are great. Always ready to help. They make family atmosphere. If you stay in this house you can feel real Zanzibar
Amazing design and room size, located by one of the best beach in Zanzibar, quality food and very quiet in April. We were also allowed a very late check-out at no extra charge.
I loved the atmosphere and the friendliness of the people. Zanzibar is a special place and its people are even more! Don't miss the full moon party if you're around!
