A real 'out of Africa' feel to ironstone cottage!! It was furnished with lovely wooden furniture that was all in good condition, lamps and wall pictures were lovely, and bedding was very comfy. The bathrooms were also very well updated and easy to use.
Proactive management of our booking was good, with clear instructions to find the cottage.

Graaff-Reinet is a gem for anyone who loves history and (well-preserved) historic buildings. Most visitors pass through while heading toward the coast or back to Joburg and drive straight through the centre of town and out the other side - but the best of what this city has to offer is OFF the main road... on the side streets. So many beautifully preserved historic buildings, unexpected coffee shops and galleries, museums and places of interest. Definitely one of South Africa's more charming small towns (for those who would just take a moment to leave the main road and LOOK).

There is a lot to do and see in an around Graaff-Reinet. Unfortunately we could not stay longer than one night. It is a very historical town with beautiful old buildings. The scenery and reserves in the area are stunning.

What a wonderful place. So clean and well-maintained. Wonderful to walk around the town and see all the beautiful homes. I loved it. And to have the Camdeboo National Park right there is just wonderful.

It's a lovely town with so much history to it.
It's a lovely town with so much history to it. The museums, while needing modernization and some TLC, have some interesting stuff particularly at the military museum. I would have loved to have had the time to visit some of the places where the Brits ambushed Commandant Gideon Scheepers whom they executed after a military court found him guilty of war crimes - they actually had him sit on a chair next to a grave and then the firing squad shot him. Worthy of remembering these guys, (Local African people, Brits and Boers) who found themselves caught up in the first war of liberation against British imperialism. Their sacrifices and keeping their names and the history alive is so important. Then to bring matters more current, a visit to the Robert Sobukwe permanent exhibition is important to help understand the contribution of one of Graaf Reinet's most famous sons.

It is a beautiful little town.
It is a beautiful little town. I was so impressed at how clean the streets are. We will be back and will stay at Cypress Cottage. I forgot to mention that we had a huge breakfast that was made in our cottage just for us.

Most of the historical buildings have been well maintained and painted white. The church is still in excellent condition.
Some modernisation taking place right now in the main street.
SANS parks nature reserve worth a visit with good dry, dirt roads. Valley of desolation view point very good with tarred road to the top followed by a short steep climb. Area can get very hot this time of year Feb 19th 43C.
Completely self catering, although there are rusks, coffee, tea, sugar and milk and ice in the house. This is truly a piece of heaven the most tranquil beautiful place and should be visited for more than one day. The dirt road you travel on to get onto the farm is fantastic, easily accessible with a city car and the directions to get there fantastic. Due to a fantastic rainy season in the Karoo we had to cross a stream, we managed that easily with a Ford Ecosport and Kia Picanto. We will be back!!!!!!!!!! Don't miss out on this gem.
Initially, I was unimpressed with lady at reception who received me at check-in. She did not introduce herself, did not explain properly how the property/gate/keys work or asked if I needed anything.
Regardless, the room, cleanliness, furniture quality and overall impression of the guesthouse was impeccable! Heleen-the manager, was friendly and a great hostess. I would most definitely recommend De Wingerd to anyone who wants to stay over in Graaff-Reinet. I’ll definitely visit them again. Thank you for a wonderful stay!
We had a lovely stay, but would have liked a room with a bit of an outside area. We had this when we stayed her 18 months ago, but I guess we got a complementary upgrade last time.
The staff were exceptional and we had nothing, but good service. We were particularly pleased with the server we had for breakfast (Amie Seekooi).
The Hotel is very well located and most attractions are within walking distance.
The Drostdy Hotel remains the Grand Old Dame she always was!
The host was amazing!
Very detail oriented. We received the local loadshedding schedule right after the booking. As we arrived, the host gave us a tour of the house, which seems to be newly renovated. There also was drinking water and milk prepared in the fridge for us, as well as non-drinking water in case the loadshedding affects the water supply.
If I'm ever traveling though Graaff-Reinet again, hopefully, this place will be available for booking.
I cannot rate my experience highly enough. I enjoyed two weeks of peace and tranquility while still able to get necessary work done thanks to reliable WiFi (except for periods of load-shedding). Plenty of different corners of the farm to explore on long walks and wonderful birdlife. Town is just a few minutes drive away. Provision made for lighting and cooking during load-shedding. Hosts of both the human and dog variety very friendly and welcoming.
The self catering unit we had at Country Village was spotlessly clean, and looked fresh and crisp. After a long trip it was a very refreshing place to walk into. Kitchen area was well equipped. No need here to worry about load-shedding as unit was equipped with a gas cooker and rechargeable LED lamps. Excellent value for money. Our host, Natasha was impressively hands-on and efficient!
Simone was exceptionally helpful, friendly and professional. A good stay can become a memory if services are good. I would rate this a 5 star as to the 5 star accommodation I have experienced, including Drosdy Hotel in Graaff-Reinet. I know for a fact where I will stay next time I will visit Graaff-Reinet, irrespective if it is for business or leisure. Many thanks Simone.
This is a magical farm! Loved everything about the experience. From where the farm is located, to the friendly owners, Ansie & Johan. Just really enjoyed the peace, quiet & beautiful views. The star studded night sky was also quite breathtaking. Ansie & Johan have thought of all the details to make the accommodation very special and unique.
Everything was perfect!
This cottage is very secure and very clean, all the kitchen equipment needed (gas-cooker if load shedding)
there is no TV but there is a free wifi signal if you need to communicate. Good supermarkets in town for self catering but also great Restuarant’s within walking distance.
if it’s cold buy wood and have a fire whilst relaxing on the comfortable couch.
Peaceful break in a lovely cottage on a farm outside Graaff-Reinet, surrounded by mountains and Aloes, has everything you need including small private pool, inside fireplace and outside braai area. We did not want to leave the place.
Really fantastic will visit again for sure - incredible facilities for the kids, clean functioning rooms, great service, and welcoming staff! A must for the whole family if stopping over in Graaff-Reinet for a night or two!
Nestled between the mountains and cozy atmosphere, loved the indoor fireplace and sounds of the farm life early in the morning and late afternoon. Lovely cottage
