It is said that abundance in Mendoza was so great at the beginning of the 20th century, that the Wine Festival was celebrated pouring this elixir in the city’s fountains and street-side irrigation canals. Located at Mount Aconcagua’s footstep, the city is an oasis in the middle of the dry beauty of the central Argentinean Andes.
Originally inhabited by indigenous peoples, the colonial city was founded in 1561. The irrigation system created by the natives was further developed and became an icon of the city, currently watering near 100,000 trees. The design of the central district includes squares and avenues, and has some of the best luxury hotels in Mendoza.

Its historic relevance comes from the fact that Argentinean hero José de San Martín prepared here his pioneering crossing of the Andes in 1817, aimed to liberate Chile.
