Mechelen has beautiful old churches, abbeys and other historical buildings and a few museums that are worth a visit. The cultural centre offered a beautiful photo exhibition 'We are Europe' and we had the luck to see a locally arranged fashion show on the city square. The toy museum has a beautiful collection of old dolls and dollhouses as well as all kind of mechanical toys. Some attractions shut,not a lot of parks or green areas.Cobbles everywhere,bring comfortable trainers!Brilliant eateries if you drink beer…very limited wine choices.Not a lot of variety of restaurants.Lovely wide streets with attractive water features and trees.Problem understanding menus as no English versions at all!

Therefore quite easy (and early) train options to reach Brussels Airport (BRU). Walking distance to old city centre with beautiful square and some (beer) cafes and restaurants, shops. Check-in guy, a Filipino, was friendly and accommodating, plentiful information available and in for a casual chat too. Room size is large, and the premises are a quite lay-out. It's not a hotel, also common public is living there in this building.
