During my stay I volunteered with the world central kitchen at CAR Centro de Acogida a Refugiados. This facility was right on the rail line that I used to get back and forth to work. There was plenty of places to get a bite to eat. I ate at VIPS many times during my visit. It is very easy to get around the neighborhood via taxi, rail, bus, or walking. Always be aware of your surrounding when you are in areas where there are a lot of tourists and people. Pickpockets are a problem if you are not paying attention.
