We didn't stop in the town of Aboyne itself, but if (or rather, when!) we go back, we will do so, as it looked very pleasant as we drove through. The scenery in the area is beautiful, and we enjoyed our drives around the area. There are plenty of placed of interest to visit and a super-abundance of castles. Beautiful place with great access to river and woodland walks. Quaint feel. A few solid local establishments to eat and drink, including the Boat Inn which has a great atmosphere and food/bar. A little scarce on eateries open later, particularly on weeknights. Most places closed by 8pm, although would highly recommend Nurtaj, the local Indian restaurant! Beautiful inside, lovely staff, amazing food. Aboyne was also a good base for accessing other places, with excellent road links out towards Inverness, Aberdeen, the Moray coast, and more. Not touristy in the best way. Beautiful place.

Lovely little town to visit, very quiet and peaceful with interesting buildings. Highly recommended if you're visiting the Cairngorms, Aberdeen or anywhere nearby. The Boat Inn is an amazing place to stay as well as for a meal or drinks with lovely indoor and outdoor spaces.
