Beautiful old English pub with good old country hospitality. Best meals we’ve had while travelling the UK,a hidden gem worth travelling for. Beautiful country side and wish we had more time to stay and see more.

The food in the restaurant was excellent - and it seemed I wasn't the only one who thought so as the place was packed every night!

The bed was incredibly comfortable. The little touches in the room were wonderful, such as a great hairdryer and locally made produce for the bathroom and biscuits. The breakfast was out of this world.

Lovely location for climbing the hills to see over Ullswater and climbing down length of Aira Force waterfalls.
Good position to explore the area; only 20 mins by car from Keswick and easy access to and from the South via the Kirkstone Pass
Hotel itself provides good menu choice and the food is well cooked and worth the price.

I liked the Hotel and the area where it was. It was only a few minutes drive to Ullswater but the savings compared to hotels by the lake was a bonus. It was very comfortable and the staff were lovely. Best thing it was super dog friendly!

There was a very good open area outside, with small and large tables and chairs. Here one could order a hot meal from the bar indoors, which would be delivered to us when ready. there was also space for a giant chess set on the marked grass.
Possibly the only problem, though we had told them that we would have to leave early the last morning, we found that none of the outer doors had been unlocked by 8.00a.m.

Just a wonderful lake district hotel.
Just a wonderful lake district hotel. It ticked all the boxes. Was realy easy to find but was so quiet. Really close to Aira force, and Ulswater and really close for a walk up Helvellyn. Food was excelent, there was 6 of us for 2 nights so between us we had almost everything off the menu and everyone loved it - even the dog!
Comfy bedrooms, with big windows to let in the fresh air. Excellent shower and bath facilities with lovely natural soaps provided.

A Very pretty but very small village/location with wonderful scenery all around , 10 minute walk from the hotel to the beginning of the Aero Force trail to Ullswater. There was an Art studio/shop close to the hotel but unfortunately this was closed.
Good location and really good food both in the evening and at breakfast. The breakfast menu was extensive and catered for vegetarians and vegans really well. The staff were very friendly and looked after my medical dietary needs really well. The room was spacious and had a good view. The building's history and the link with Mary Queen of Scots was interesting. We would recommend the Royal Hotel and would stay again
Beautiful location in a lovely country pub hotel. Loved being able to access so many walks, and all the staff were great. It was lovely to have our dog welcomed so much too. We ate in the pub restaurant both evenings, as the food was good and made things very convienient. Food in both evening and breakfast was very good, especially the seasonal stewed fruit. Made a lovely end of year break.
Incredibly comfortable and great interior design A little off the beaten path so a car is necessary. Good little pub with good meals and pints within walking distance. Walking trails straight out the door Loved the views snd peace after exploring in the much more crowded Lake District villages
What a gorgeous property! The photographs certainly don’t do it justice. It was the little touches that made it- the underfloor heating on, orange juice and Prosecco left in an ice bucket! Felt like we’d walked into a boutique hotel- slippers, bath robes. Cannot recommend this little gem enough.
Wonderful hotel, great staff, great location. Excellent food, both breakfast and evening meal. Excellent selection of drinks. Room was very comfortable with very comfy bed, and really good facilities. Shower was lovely, along with the provided soaps and shampoo.
Would recommend to everyone!
The ambience of the hotel is perfect for The lakes with a rustic feel in the bar and lounge area. The decor in the residential area is a bit tired in places. The bathroom was beautifully warm which was just as well as the temperature of the water was just adequate.
The Royal is a superbly positioned and well run hotel with helpful staff and comfortable rooms in a slightly quirky configuration but all the more charming for it. I would stay again whenever in the area or passing on the M6.
The food was excellent and the staff most helpful and friendly
The bed was very comfortable and the environment peaceful
This hotel is especially recommended for people accompanied with their dogs
Excellent location, a little bit away from busy tourist area. Friendly and helpful staff. Excellent large beer garden. Good dinner menu and perfect portions for full breakfast.
A very pleasant olde wordle hotel. Room was very spacious with comfy bed and a superb shower. Food and drinks at the bar are highly recommended.
Excellent location for hiking
The hotel was in a lovely quiet location close to Glenridding, Pooley Bridge and Ullswater.
We had been before only to eat and booked this time as it was so convenient.
