This is an ancient building on several levels, beams, low ceilings, some steep stairs and so on, but none of that was a problem. The room was a well-converted roof-space seemingly not long done, with new decorations, carpet and shower-room fittings.

We arrived on a wet cold November afternoon. The heating was on. It is a lovely, clean, high spec property. We stayed in one evening because the living room was so nice.

Very clean and everything you want in it for a short stay
There is a range of attractions to suit all tastes.
There is a range of attractions to suit all tastes. If you like history, there are self guided audio trails, museums devoted to the naval history and military signficance of the napoleonic and first and second world war. I came for the photographic opportunities, with massive container ships, sailing boats and the potential for glorious sunrises over the ocean. It does look a bit run down in places and I was a bit apprehensive, but everyone was very friendly, and I would sum it up as an unspoilt gem, from an earlier, more relaxed era.

Some lovely old buildings surrounded by industrial complexes. Every horizon you can’t avoid the super tank loading cranes and other industries.
If your a real ale fan, unfortunately there is very little. The Hanover burnt down so the owners opened a pop up beer shop near by. It was the only decent pint I could find. The Alma bar and rooms had an excellent atmosphere and food, but the beer is dreadful and expensive.

I was pleasantly surprised by how lovely Harwich was, there was lots of history in the old town and pretty little streets. There was not much in the way of restaurants or coffee shops but what was there was good. I ate at the Alma Inn.

During the summer months Harwich has a great deal to offer as it is by the sea, near a lovely beach which stretches to Dovercourt, and has a long maritime history. It has a new museum, upgraded cafes and park.

I had no idea until we spent some time there yesterday what an interesting and historic place Harwich is. Was particularly moved by the sculpture of the "kindertransport" children by the halfpenny pier (Jewish children sent by their parents from the NL to the UK to save them from the concentration camps). Would like to explore further.

The hotel room was, Okay, bed was hard, pillow hard, cupboards falling off, only 2 hangers, local uses of the bar were very rude and aggressive towards us, making our stay very uncomfortable. Hotel is in a built up street.
This pub has everything I need for a very comfortable night before catching the ferry next day, a 5 minute drive to the terminal. As it's a Wetherspoons, the Abbot Ale is on tap, and it's a great pint so savour before traveling to Europe (with its very small beers) with a good meal available late into the evening.
The staff are really lovely, always cheerful and helpful. I feel really safe staying here as a woman on my own, which is important to me. For location, service, comfort and price its perfect.
The house was beautifully decorated with some lovely period features, extremely clean & very well-appointed. It was also very well positioned, being just yards from the seafront and the rest of historic Harwich. Thanks must go to our host, who was extremely accommodating, even going as far as to ask how we wanted the bedrooms making up!
We had our family Christmas break at the cottage, arriving on Christmas Eve for 4 nights. We know Harwich & liked the location so had plenty of seaside walks. We cooked a full Christmas dinner in the cottage & enjoyed putting the wood burner on every evening to relax. The bedrooms were comfortable & spacious.
Because of the early leave of the ferry, we had the opportunity for an extra early breakfast. Which was really nice. Breakfast was good.
The room was beautiful with great details en everything was available to make you feel at home.
Jayne was a very nice lady and made us feel very welcome.
A true gem, I’ve stayed at hotels 3 times the price and not as good. Excellent gardens and outside space. Staff really exceptional, watch them…… a 5 star hotel poach them.
Dovercourt a little sad, but I’m sure it’ll recover.
Tower hotel is a credit to it’s owner, well done.
My stay at Driftwood cottage was excellent, great location and the old town of harwich was so historic. Lot's of lovely old pubs that all offer great food. The cottage was so cosy and we had the best sleep, would definitely recommend this place to friends and family.
Lovely fresh and clean accommodation with all amenities required for an 18 night work secondment from Germany in Harwich -
We shall use in future for other visitors to our company both UK and abroad.
Nice clean basic room above a pub. The pub was ugly with some noisy drunks but the hotel part of the building was nice and worth the price. It was very close to the ferry port, about 10 mins walk.
The place was interesting and eclectic. The lady who runs it clearly has a sense of humour so make sure you read the notices and hotel info (you’ll see what I mean). Bar and food were also good.
The hotel was very central and close to all the historic sites that we were looking for. Aldo close to the waterfront with a great walking path along the sea front.
