Fabulous Cottage-we stayed at the Crown cottage (2 bedroom house)! The host ensured we had all the help we needed promptly. We had a great time, the place is right in the middle, 2 mins to the magnificent Gold Hill (you cannot miss) and 10 mins to Castle Hill. If in Shaftesbury, do not miss this place!

The bed was very comfy. Car park was OK. Nice toiletries in the room and clean bath towels.
Lovely town to explore. Gold Hill the main attraction but the streets at the bottom of the hill have lots of character and some thatched properties..We found a lovely millennium garden and a some interesting shops. Not so much to do on a rainy day around the area this time of year as the NT properties are not open yet so suggest visiting
March onwards.

Beautiful old town, cobbled streets, amazing views.
Beautiful old town, cobbled streets, amazing views. Gold Hill has to be seen (google Hovis advert) even my 20 year old was impressed. We had a wonderful breakfast at King Alfred’s Kitchen instead of eating at our hotel. We stayed at Grosvenor Arms Hotel, very central, no parking if you at staying but car parks are available. I live close to Arundel in West Sussex and it reminded me of the medieval history. Nice people, nice views, beautiful place to have a weekend away.

A beautiful part of Dorset with lots to see like Gold Hill and very good places to eat - The Mitre pub served delicious food with an amazing view. There are an interesting collection of shops to suit most people and the people were lovely.

It is hard to give a review of Shaftesbury, having spent just an overnight in the town. From first appearances, though, this town and environs is well worth a longer stay to explore. The Restaurant, San Tonino, is well worth a visit.

I thought it was a gorgeous town and I definitely want to go back. The buildings are so old and the town is full of historical interest. We only had a couple of hours, after coming to visit friends, and it was pouring with rain, but we went to Gold Hill and had a lovely hot chocolate there, and visited a gallery, and just really enjoyed walking around. We saw a house which Thomas Hardy featured in 'Jude the Obscure' and a yew tree that pre-dates Christianity. We briefly visited the free Gold Hill Museum and definitely would like to go back there. Apparently in the summer there is a lido.

Great place to visit and walk round very pretty place.
But now the parking facilities for the hotel and local businesses in the High Street been made difficult.
Very sad, especially for us older clientele.
🥲
A brilliant home from home for a couple from which to explore the beautiful Dorset area. Everything provided you could wish for, very clean and great welcome. Lovely views from living room to a pretty garden then across playing fields to distant hills. Shaftesbury is a lovely small historic hilltop town and its easy to get to the many attractions of Dorset and its coast through beautiful little villages. Totally enjoyed our stay. Thanks
We had the twin room which was very comfortable and quiet. Had everything we needed for the night and Diane and Ian were so lovely, letting us use their iron and introducing us to their dogs Willow and Maisie. The breakfast was delicious and the room was really clean. Can't recommend highly enough if you're looking for a place to stay in Shaftesbury!
Our room was spacious including the en-suite. All the meals were good(breakfast and dinner). Parking was fine. There is a petanque area, complete with boules. There are loads of outside tables to use for drinks and meals. Very dog friendly. All the staff we met were very friendly and helpful.
Breakfast was very good - plenty of choice.
We appreciated that staff found I had left my toothbrush and toothpaste in the room and they bothered to tie it to my car while we were exploring Shaftesbury. They did know we were leaving the car in the carpark for a little while.
Brilliant location for exploring Shaftesbury and a very unique stay in a slice of history. Updown Cottage is well equipped, small but perfectly formed! Lovely touches like baby grand piano, cupboards full of games and good quality kitchen appliances and utensils.
The Studio is a quaint small cottage idea for two people. Its in beautiful countryside, and we enjoyed our stay in this quiet secluded cottage. It was our first visit to Dorset and it was ideal to visit both countryside and coast.
Staff were all excellent - friendly, smiling and accommodating. Nothing too much trouble. Food was excellent. Bar and courtyard area very welcoming and prices comparable to pubs in town but with a much nicer ambience.
Old style country Pub with thatched roof, staff were very friendly and helpful
The food was excellent 👍👍, great value 👍👍
I have been working down in the area 6 times previous wish I had found it on the 1st visit
The property was fairly easy to find if your commuting by bus however if you are driving the navigation takes you to the back of the hotel. The facility was fairly clean. The children loves the pool.
Lovely cosy proper pub, really good food and all staff were great! Very comfortable nights sleep, lovely and clean - would highly recommend this place to anyone wanting to visit the area
Lovely friendly staff. The pool was great, really warm and clean. The hotel is in a great location for town centre. The breakfast was delicious, loads of choice, good quality options.
Breakfast was plentiful and delicious. Dessert (warm Dorset apple cake) was amazing. The staff were friendly and welcoming and we had some good chats with them.
Lovely old cottage, very comfortable and with everything provided. Great location for short walk into Shaftesbury town centre. Friendly and helpful hosts.
