Dimitris, who runs the place, and Mrs Anthi (his mother) look after the rooms and guests excellently; Mrs Anthi never failed to ask, whenever I saw her, whether everything was OK (it was). The young lady who cleans the rooms does a great job - if anything, I had to beg her not to change the bedlinen every couple of days, which I found unnecessary.
The studios are located right on the edge of the tiny village of Ai Giorgis, so it's only 3' on foot to the nearest, slightly upmarket tavern Akathi (delicious food), the all-day café 'To Perasma' (also run by Dimitris) and to the multifunctional 'Melissa' - a 'kafeneio' and local hub that doubles as the island's post office, travel agency and one of just two (sparsely stocked) mini markets. The location is very convenient, if you choose to swim in Ai Giorgis (a tiny harbour beach, but the water looks clean); it's about 20' on foot from the main beach of Livadi.
In terms of practicalities:
- The mattress is very comfy and the fridge is quiet.
- All windows are double-glazed and fitted with insect screens.
- The kitchenette is perfectly adequate for preparing simple meals, as, indeed, I and most other (nice and friendly) guests I met did.
- The tap water comes from the local desalination plant and is absolutely fine to drink. You will be offered bottled water wherever you go, but I personally don't like unnecessary plastic waste.
- The terrace is shared. You will have a table and folding chairs outside your room, but if privacy is important, maybe this isn't the place for you.
- Most guests I met were discreet and quiet. Not the right place for loud conversations and music.
- Most rooms overlook the small orchard and the village, but at the far end of the terrace, you can enjoy views of the Aegean - and of the sunset.

Small, walkable, unassuming, breezy, mellow - and I...
Small, walkable, unassuming, breezy, mellow - and I sincerely hope it stays that way.
A lovely Aegean sky, starry nights, several trails (some more rewarding than others); simple architecture, delicious Greek dishes (many made with local produce, but at Athens prices); a sweet sandy beach with tamarisks, easily reached on foot (there are other beaches, but most are accessible only by boat); mostly respectful, friendly locals; low-key tourists - except for some (not all!) of the day-trippers and yachters, who are under the misconception that they own the beach and harbour, occasionally blasting their music from their boats.
- The two mini markets are hugely expensive and only one was open in late September. If you're sojourning in Athens or one of the larger islands, do your pocket a favour and stock up on groceries there.
- There are next to no recycling bins and, sadly, there is visible evidence of fly-tipping, though not as bad as in other places I've been to. It's in the locals' interest to prove that they care about the environment, as most of this lovely island's loyal lovers do.
- Last but not least: the local authorities ought to bar speedboats and anything with an engine and propeller from accessing - illegally, of course - Livadi beach: they bring zero income to the inhabitants and drive away the type of visitor who respects the island and its people and wildlife.
On one day, I counted six vessels anchored less than 30 yards from the strand; this is dangerous for swimmers, unsightly and disrespectful to those who want to just gaze at the sea. I challenged the 'captain' of the boat nearest to the beach and met, inevitably, with rudeness. By the way, I wasn't the only one who was angry at this invasion; other swimmers shared this view and felt strongly about it.

I knew that Iraklia was a quiet island ..
I knew that Iraklia was a quiet island ..I have travelled in Greece for 50 years .It was still an adventure travelling 8 hours on the Blue Star ferry .I could have made it easier with a stopover in Naxos .
The island was great for walking ,swimming ,sketching and meditation, The islanders were friendly and helpful …only 2 shops ,no petrol station ,one taxi ( no bus May/ early June ).
I ate most nights at Akathi restaurant which was near Angelos Rooms ( my wonderful accommodation), the food here was really well cooked and presented and Demitrios & Paris and their team of cooks were great hosts and determined to look after their customers.
There are about 9 signed hiking paths and you can buy a small hiking map from Melissa shop .
If you are on an island hopping trip you can link Iraklia with Skinoussa , Koufanisi, Amorgos ,Denoussa + Paros / Naxos …but personally I wouldn’t rush the visit —I felt that I felt healthier and calmer each extra day on Iraklia.
Villa Panorama is a great choice in Irakleia, exceeded all our expectations and Maria was a wonderful host, made sure we had everything we needed for our stay and even more. The location is extraordinary, on top of the hill with ample view to the sea and the nearby beach of Livadi. The room was comfortable, spacious, clean and fully equipped. We travelled with our mid-sized dog who also had a great time as the property is very pet friendly and Maria gave her a lot of treats. Couldn't have asked for more, we will certainly stay there again!
Alexandra collected me from the port, she was wonderful and a perfect host. Although my room was at the rear of the building by the road, it was very quiet. The room was very modern and the facilities excellent. The location is great as it is between the port and the beach and the rooms to the front of the hotel have sea views in an elevated position. There is a wine bar onsite with a great patio area to sit in. The staff were so helpful and I want to thank them for such a fantastic stay. Iraklia is one of my favourite greek islands now.
You will get the sunset. And a huge veranda, a clean, comfortable room with all the equipment you possibly need. And a lift from and to the port. That is actually not needed. But Dimitris, his mom and his dad will take care of you. Lovely hosts. Really lovely and supportive. Close to tavernas, kaffenions and beaches. And the perfect start to hike around the island, including the cave, more beaches, collapsed settlements, plane wreck and more tavernas. And cats, watching the sunset..
Outstanding views, quiet, great facilities, clean, friendly hosts.
Situated halfway between the village and the beach of Livadi - everything is within reach.
Watching the sunrise from the balcony is an experience in itself. 😊 Watching the sunset from the old windmill is 4 minutes away.
If you are looking for the best Lesser Cyclades island experience, you cannot go wrong with Villa Panorama in Iraklia.
Room was beautiful and modern with a Greek look. Owners were super friendly and even picked me up from the Port. On the day I was leaving, check out was at 11am while my ferry time was at 9pm. They placed my luggage in a secure room and drove it to the port for me at 8:30pm while I explored more of the island up until leaving so that I did not have to lug it around everywhere.
I was picked up and dropped at the port to catch my ferry. My host gave me a choice between two apartments without extra charge. From my apartment in town I could see both the port and the mountains and hear the local women singing in a nearby taverna - absolutely wonderful! A lot of the tavernas and breakfast cafes were already open by the end of April.
Everything was amazing, the two hosts were kind and helpful. We fell in love with Iraklia and I think Speires is the best place to stay on the island. Comfortable, spacious and clean rooms, beautiful bathrooms, delicious breakfast with many different options, and a lovely bar where you can see the sunset while enjoying a drink. We will come back
Everything was perfect! The big room with the big balkony and the nice view to the small port of the island.
Nikos was very kind and makes the best breakfast ever! I enjoyed the time in Iráklía very much and will come back for sure!!!!! Time is getting another meaning on this island! Excatly what i was looking for!
Thank you Nikos!
Being at Venetiko is like being hosted by a long-time friend at his house, in this case, Dimitri, who has a kind and joyful spirit. The overall feeling of staying at this place is that you have lived in the beautiful, wild, and out-of-time Iraklia since forever. A big hug from Silvia and Max!
Wonderful place. The owner was very friendly and collected us from the port, He prepared breakfast especially for us upon arrival. He also drove us to a path in the island and all free of charge. The rooms are comfortable and spacious. The sunrise is exceptional.
Really lovely located a bit outside the center so nice and quiet. Great to have the free transfer to the room. We had a lovely dinner at the gyros shop just outside and you can buy your ferry tickets at cafe Melissa near the port.
There are some familiar tavernas close around for a local dinner, even since it seems isolated in the middle of an unspoiled island. Familiar welcoming, comfortable rusticity, simplicity, and harmony.
Really nice place, new rooms that are very stylish and with great views of the sea and surrounding islands, just a few minutes from the port and a short walk to the best beach on the island.
The room it was spacious, with an excellent sea view. The location it was good, with only 10 minutes from the main Livadi beach, and not far from the restaurant's on the island.
Great breakfast that changes daily
5 shuttles per day on fixed hours to the port
Pick up from and drop off at the port
Comfortable mattress
Stunning views of the island
