We loved everything. Giorgos is a fantastic host that took such good care of us. His place is brand-new and constantly improving. Don’t pay any attention to other comments claiming there is no electricity. There is in fact as well as air conditioning, hot water, and many other ammenities you wouldn’t even imagine coming to an island like Gavdos. And, of course, the dogs ❤️❤️❤️
Very different, quite organised when you get there.
Very different, quite organised when you get there. Quiet and peaceful and simple. People are super friendly and communication was no issue. Getting round the island was simple with a scooter and a good pair of sturdy shoes for the hikes.

It’s like being at the end of the world.
It’s like being at the end of the world. A “Land That Time Forgot.” A place to unplug and disconnect. Experience it before it becomes developed and commercialized like other Greek island or places like Key West, Florida and Provincetown, Massachusetts.

Going to Gavdos means to leave one's comfort zone, although the island's infrastructure has improved a lot, nothing comparable with 25 years ago.
Even in summer time and even having daily connections does not mean that the boat will arrive from mainland Crete; winds may change every day and connections may be cancelled on a short notice.
Nevertheless if you want to see something new, still quite unspoilt, if you want to hike, especially to Europe's southernmost point, if you want to enjoy lonely beaches, you might feel well on that island.

Bit of a culture shock on arrival, very simple and undeveloped. Beautiful beaches. Excellent local bus service. A few good walks, surprisingly very well waymarked. Lots of wild camping around, and a very laid back hippy culture. Great place to chill out.

Nice cosy island with exceptional beaches and good local food.
Trekking & hiking are activities that fit in, yet to visit some of the real nice beaches you must have a good physical condition and stamina.
Strongly recommended for people with focus in getting close to nature.

Gavdos is very quiet and lonesome.
Gavdos is very quiet and lonesome. Don't expect a lot of comfort and attractions. If you come here, you want to be in a very natural environment. Important note for those who have to catch a flight from Crete: Be prepared that ferries might be cancelled due to stormy weather, sometimes you might be stuck for a couple of days.
