This hotel was a lovely oasis in the quiet town of Chora Sfakion. The central courtyard was beautifully done in stone with the patios of the rooms looking down upon that as well as the town. The staff were friendly and welcoming and held our luggage in the office for us as we arrived before check-in time. When the room was ready, our bags were waiting for us in the room. The room was very comfortable with a king size bed, mini fridge, writing table, ample storage space and private balcony. The white walls, wood doors and windows and the entire accent wall of stone made the room very relaxing and welcoming.
Located on the sea front of Chora Sfakion and just 10 metres from the Libyan Sea, the hotel Livikon by the Sea features 10 rooms with balcony and sea view.

Basic Hotel in good price to stay in Chora Sfakion. The non-included breakfast in downstairs cafe is excellent, especially "omeleta" (scrambled eggs) and "sfakiani pita" (fried pie with cheese and honey on top).

Here you can take a fantastic hike from Sfakion to Mamera.
Here you can take a fantastic hike from Sfakion to Mamera. It takes a full day - around 10-12 kilometers and you need to be in good shape. I would not go there for the beaches - there are much better beaches elswhere in Greece - and certainly not go there with small children. Kids around 14 -15 you can bring along the hike if they are up for the physical challenge.

This is a lovely little place, and a great base for exploring other villages along the south coast; as well as the ferry to Gavdos.
The cafes/tavernas along the front are all lovely and mostly run by super friendly people.
There's a fantastic bakery with very pleasant staff!
Vrissi beach is lovely for a few days.

Close to Sweetwater and Loutro. Accessible by ferry or car.
Close to Sweetwater and Loutro. Accessible by ferry or car. It's a great place to swim or hike. An E4 path (not recommended for children)starts next to Elena Nature and Arts. And if you're hiking the Samaria park this is a great base.
Fresh local products like fish and yogurt are very good.

Beautiful small village catered to tourists, easy to walk around. My husbands family was originally from Sfakia 300 years ago and he was looking forward to a more “local” experience there. The restaurants are great, people welcoming but it is 100% catered to tourism. The ferry ride to Loutros was nice

Chora Sfakion stole a huge part of my heart in 1974. I would go back every year until I die if I could. The people are lovely. The food is fantastic! The views are amazing! Great hiking nearby. It is the perfect location and size to get the true Greek experience.

I have passed through Sfakia before a couple of times when returning from Samarian and Imbros Gorges, but wanted to stay. It is a great base for hiking – I walked out of the town to the mountains and the E4 path on one day and took the boat to Aghia Roumeli and hiked back to Loutro the other day. You can get a boat – ferry or water taxi – from here to many places on the south coast and to Gavdos Island. In late October it was pretty quiet, just hikers really. Friendly people, some fantastic waterfront tavernas, lovely local beaches, a couple of great supermarkets, a superlative bakery with the best pies and nut bars for your rucksack, and a pharmacy for blisters. You can get here by bus, boat or car. I drove from the north, and parking was easy, €3/day or free if staying in hotel, although I can imagine it will be harder in the summer. It is quieter in the evening as most people just pass through on their way from the gorges.
