The common room was nice. The room was clean and we enjoyed sleep in traditional futon. High recommended location.

I got a traditional Japanese room, with a low table in the middle, low chairs and futon beds. The truth is that everything was incredible. We had all the comforts (full bathroom, with all the necessary items), very comfortable beds, good bedding, an electric kettle to prepare whatever we wanted, although even on the ground floor there was also coffee and water to serve. The facility has a public Japanese bath, which we didn't go to because it didn't catch our attention, but we saw that many people used it. To get to the place you have to walk about 20 minutes, something to keep in mind if you go with luggage.
The staff at the place was incredible, excellent treatment, very friendly and predisposed.
The breakfast is excellent, it is a traditional Japanese breakfast and includes a refill of tea and rice.
If I go to Miyajima again, definitely I would go to this hotel.

We only stayed one night, but I wish we stayed 2-3. I left feeling like I only scratched the surface. Beautiful and peaceful place to unwind, especially after visiting the Peace Park Museum in Hiroshima.

It is a magic island where I would spend at least a couple of full days by sleeping in an authentic hotel with futon beds. If you can, i recommend to do the hiking of the main mountain (not difficult at all)

If you are an elderly Japanese teetotaller who likes simple food, an onsen and beautiful views this is the place for you!
If however, you also like your hotel to be multi generational, with a nice bar, good food and a welcoming atmosphere, this is definitely not the hotel for you.

We stayed 2 nights but wish we could have stayed longer.
We stayed 2 nights but wish we could have stayed longer. We took one whole day climbing the mountain, which was great but time consuming, so we ended up not seeing everything on our list. Keep in mind that the restaurants and bars close by 7 or 8 pm because all of the tourists leave the island around 5:30 pm. You really get to enjoy the beautiful island in peace and quiet in the morning and evening before the boats of tourists arrive. It was our favorite place we visited in Japan!

Miyajima Villa was the perfect escape!
Miyajima Villa was the perfect escape! Friendly, professional staff assisted us to get settled, offering umbrellas for the rain, assistance on getting around the Island, etc. The hotel even offers Onsen clothing and many other amenities for their guests! The hotel is conveniently located just steps from the ferry dock and the main streets to see the Tori Gate or the Itsukushima Shrine, the aquarium, to get to the Ropeway, trinket stores, ice cream stations, and so on. Our ocean room view had 2 oversized very comfy twin beds, a small couch, & desk. Loved the Toto Washlet in the toilet room! The bathtub while small was perfect for soaking after 5 hours of hiking. Lots of soft water and water pressure. The onsen (public bath) was just pure Heaven! :-) Sitting in the enclosed area in back of the hotel is just more of the escape and so worthwhile! :-)
Thankfully there was food available in the hotel (bakery, dinner, breakfast) because ALL food service in town STOPS AT 4:30pm! At least, it did while we were there. Our breakfast with Miyajima Villa was wonderful and very filling whether Japanese or American food.
High caution is advised if you plan to hike from the Ropeway, as we did. Trails are not well marked on all trails. However, the trail to the top of Mt Misen is well worthwhile! Hopefully, you are as fortunate as we were to see the Tori Gate at high & low tides as well as catching it at sunset, which brought out MANY PEOPLE. :-) :-) What a perfectly lovely island to spend some adventure time!

Beautiful island.
Beautiful island. Go early in the morning especialy if you want to climb the mountain. It's a pretty hard track, bu it's beautiful.
In the afthernoon it's to hot.
Lot of tourist in the afternoon and it's hard to have some dinner.
Stay there during the sunset: the shrine is beautiful!
The property is located in a lovely spot on Miyajima Island. Walkable to the busy waterfront area. It’s definitely old school but the room was clean. We stayed at Hotel Makoto for the ryokan experience. We were really excited when we returned after an evening out to find our beds prepared for us. I have to say, sleeping on the floor was uncomfortable but I was expecting that. There were more pads in the closet. The staff provided maps and info about the island. Very friendly and helpful.
Highly recommend staying with Ryoso Kawaguchi!! Wish we could have stayed here longer than the 1 night stay we had booked because it was one of the highlights of the trip. The location of this ryokan is a 5 min walk from the Torii gate. The hospitality we received was beyond anything I've seen. In addition the history of this ryokan is an added bonus, the ryokan has been operating for 15 generations since the edo period which is incredible living in such well preserved piece of history.
The hotel was expensive but offers a great experiment and the luxury to enjoy Miyajima on the evening, without the crow and enjoy the sunset and sunrise on the island. To room was huge and very clean, the bed very confortable.
The hotel have a whole floor dedicated to well-being, with a salon, onsen, exterior pool, rock bath, karaoke room... That you can access anytime on the opening hour. They have also kimono at disposition at the entry, a little shop on the 1st floor.
This charming ryokan style hotel was like stepping back in time. Like others have mentioned, the hotel is dated, but it is well maintained and very clean. The view from the rooms out to the sea is lovely and futon beds very comfortable. The food was excellent and service exceptional. We enjoyed using the onsen facilities and rocking round in our yakuta. The shuttle service from the port was also very handy. We had a memorable stay and loved our time on Miyajima.
Great Tradiational Japanese hotel, breakfast, and dinner included with the stay which is great om Miyajima Island, the food was truly amazing. Overall a great stay with great staff and gives you an opportunity to explore Miyajama Island after the tourist have left in the evening. There is also a shuttle service that takes you from the ferry station to the hotel. Hotels are also right outside the the Aquarium which was pretty cool.
From the free shuttle, to the welcoming staff and just the overall experience, it was amazing. The location is absolutely great as it's just outside the busy area, across the aquarium (which we can recommend) and the start of one of the three routes up Mt. Misen. It's quiet, the view from our seaside room was gorgeous and the food so tasty. Do not hesitate, book here! I certainly will if I come back to Miyajima!
Excellent and amiable service, plus a great location to explore Miyajima island. The hotel's onsen (public bath) was really lovely. However, the food was simply spectacular. We had a half-board (breakfast and dinner), and both meals far surpassed our expectations. The dinners were fantastic, about 10-course reviews of classical Japanese cuisine, and so were Japanese breakfasts.
The staff were lovely, attentive and very accommodating.
Provided meals were excellent and the food was plentiful.
Futon were comfortable and the room was quite nice.
Across the road from Miyajima Aquarium.
Itsukushima Shrine is very close so it's a great location for accessing the shrine away from peak crowds.
This is a first rate ryokan located in the heart of Miyajima. They definitely know how to take care of their guests. We stayed in a western styled room with its own Japanese ofuro (bath) that had a wonderful view. They also have a restaurant the serves outstanding fried oysters and other Japanese cuisine.
The owner is very nice. He gave tips about the island & places to eat, and was always helpful.
The room was Japanese style looking out over the small village, shrines and ocean.
The location of the guesthouse is in a quiet area away from the main tourist zone, but still very easy to reach.
The hotel was amazingly located to explore Miyajima's main attractions. The staff were very helpful, offering many recommendations for food and drink when we arrived quite late in the evening. The room was clean and very large by Japanese standards. The futon mattresses were very comfortable.
Our stay at the Miyajima Seaside Hotel was amazing. The family room was spacious, public baths were relaxing, and the food was excellent. We couldn’t have asked for anything more. The service was superb, beginning with the shuttle driver taking our bass to the hotel so that we could explore.
Room was spacious and very clean with a beautiful view from the balcony. The private onsen was an absolute dream with views looking over to Miyajima Island. Free shuttle bus from the train station and a perfect location for visiting Miyajima Island.
Nice property in Miyajima, a few minutes away from the center, in a quiet location. I particularly liked the small onsen, and having the opportunity to book either a standard hotel room with the bathroom or a Japanese style.
the location,inside and outside onsen,
free shuttle services from the port.
I enjoyed the night and morning walking tour even Japanese guide.
very beautiful hotel ,I will be back in the future when I visit the island.
Location in a Miyajima, close to main interesting points, and the atmosphere of the hotel is great. Food is really authentic. Staff hospitality is superb.
