The accommodation is ideal for solo travellers as myself but also for couples or friends. You check-in with Jun-san at their izakaya and then you get autonomously to the house, with well-equipped kitchen, free bicycle and washing machine for a super fair price. The beds were very comfortable with termoblanket if needed. The location is great to explore the heart of Shikoku. Would definitely go back!

Great traditional lifestyle experience in a beautiful valley. Shino san is an amazing host who really makes you feel welcome at his home. Can't recommend it enough unless you are bothered by things that come with old countryside living like cold rooms and manual flushing toilets but to me those were just part of the experience.

Location was excellent and check-in and check-out were super fast and easy!
To say the Iya valley is beautiful would be an understatement. The vine bridges, the scarecrow village and gorges are pretty much all you'll hear about and for good reason. They're the main attraction and the reason people go. It's all about the nature and a handful of curiosities like the Yokai museum.
While not the tourist powerhouse of big cities like Kyoto, it does kind of live off of its "in the know" tourists. A new generation of younger entrepreneurs are trying to revitalize the area and transform it into something more in line with their modern sensibilities.
Travel is not easy and requires a lot of planning and preparation. Buses are extremely rare and trains as well. Bad weather can throw a wrench into your plans and mess up everything. Renting a car almost a must in order to visit the more far away spots, but a strong and experienced cyclists could probably do it - maybe. Those hills and mountains aren't always easy! And those trucks get a bit scary.
I stayed in Ikeda-cho, one of the bigger areas of Miyoshi city but still a bit of a one horse town.
But one thing is has going for it is that you can follow the Yoshino river for an 80km ride into Tokushima city. On a nice day, it's one of the best bike rides you could do.

Miyoshi is great.
Miyoshi is great. Spread over quite a few km, this area has so much to offer. I loved the historic elements as well as the scenery/ geography. Most restaurants focus on fresh local produce, and spot on for flavour and quality !

Beautiful & amazing place, The rare grand landscape of the mountains and waters in Japan!!! There are many interesting places hide in the deep mountains, waiting for you to discover, it is a place worth spending a few days to slowly experience and play! And if you hate crowding with many tourists, this is definitely a great choice.
Everything. Staff were friendly and attentive including valet parking service. Hotel was a lovely building in a beautiful setting. Rooms were clean and spacious, staff will make your beds up whilst at dinner. Dinner and breakfast were both outstanding, a delicious selection of traditional and locally sourced japanese cuisine in a very aesthetic room. We only used the outdoor onsen which you take the funicular to. It was clean with beautiful views and not busy during our visit.
I booked there one week before leaving Japan since I never went to an Onsen. It is definitely not the regular kind of onsen and more of the high end kind. the food was original and tasteful (both evening and breakfast) both the indoor and the outside bath were beautiful and the staff was speaking good english.
If you are tall, notify them, they had to change my Kimono since they did not expect me to be this tall (over 178cm you should probably tell them).
Unique experience in the magical Iya valley - Shino-san has made the stay unforgettable! The house is very traditional and lovingly furnished, with a fantastic view over the valley. Shino-san is a fantastic cook and his sake collection defies descriptions. Lots of things to see in the surrounding area. Great immersion into the Japanese lifestyle and culture. Thank you Shino-san for your hospitality!!!
Charming japanese guesthouse in Miyoshi. The staff was friendly and very obliging and it felt very welcoming.
The room looked exactly like on the pictures.
We loved everything about it and our stay was wonderful. We would come here again.
We recommend to book with dinner, it was delicious and a great experience.
The beautiful Onsen was included and with free toiletries.
Japanese omotenashi is well embodied in this establishment; the owner of the hotel personally comes to greet guests during dinner with a traditional folk song and also attending to guests table by table and all staff were polite and helpful.
Room was comfortable and all the baths were great, particular the outdoor bath available for all guests blasting a great view.
I particularly like the interior decor of the room. It is new and modern and yet retain some Japanese elements, like a tatami floor in the sitting area. It is clean and attends to details such as providing a lot of sockets for electrical appliances. It is conveniently located in the Oboke region
We had a very nice recently renovated Japanese style room with a nice view. The onsen was very enjoyable and we could enjoy the beautiful surroundings from there. Dinner and breakfast were delicious, creative dishes with local ingredients like buckwheat. Everyone was very welcoming.
Great place! Good location - close to two bus stops, some major attractions and small shops and restaurant.
Rooms are spacious and very clean. Bath is also very nice to use.
Food is fantastic, one of the best I’ve had in Japan.
The owner is super nice and helpful.
An amazing location, large rooms, clean and comfortable. very iconic Japanese hotel. The outdoor baths were very pleasant and a highlight of the stay, as was the opportunity to use the hotel’s e bikes for a ride through the area. one of our best stays in Japan.
Located in a quiet but accessible neighbourhood, this beautiful ryokan offers free Wi-Fi, a beautiful private bath, very comfy japanese style beds and very clean rooms. The staff and owner go above and beyond to make sure your stay is as comfortable as can be.
Great onsen facilities which weren't too busy. Tasty, large buffet breakfast. Stayed in Japanese style tatami room and beds were pre-made, had a small backroom as well with seating area. Fridge and kettle in room. Free parking in front.
Stayed 3 nights unfortunately the cafe was closed due to a private party on the first night and closed on Monday. But the night we did eat there it was good.
Spacious Japanese style room and very good shared showers and toilets.
The old Japanese house was clean and located in a quiet country setting Loved the serenade of frogs on the evening. Kitchen was well set up with appliances, dishes and utensils. Staff at Heso Salon were friendly and responsive.
Big traditional Japanese room at a low price. Three morning shuttles to the Oboke train station, and if you call from the station, they will come pick you up. Beautiful location, friendly staff, nice Onsen.
The 4SStay Ikeda crew runs a great shop! The (Japanese style) room was spacious and fine. We loved the 4SStay coffee shop/restaurant on the ground floor. Terrific crew and great service!
A very unique experience with a lovely host who taught us about traditional Japanese life .He was so much fun, kind and engaging and went out of his way to make our stay special
Very nice, decent, very clean and tidy. Room is Elegant & spacious with well setup, especially on bed (Japan traditional style), feeling comfortable on everything
