Shocking staff. We will not visit again.
Shocking staff. We will not visit again. We stayed 4 nights in Tulip Inn hotel nearby and it was amazing experience despite being small. But we made mistake to stay in this hotel. Not value for money. They spoiled our holiday because of poor customer service experience and unfriendly staff. Absolutely lost words

As I visited Reunion many times I can say the island is wonderful. Waterfalls, ravines, often erupting volcano, excellent beaches. St Denis is a base for discovering it by easily renting a car at the airport. The city is for work or nightlife. The prices are higher than in neighbouring islands. The higher the accomodation price the better value you get.

It is an extremely clean area and people are very pleasant and helpful. However, the cost of living is relatively high and shopping may not really be an option unless you want to buy branded items.
Wrt transport, taxi service across the island is quite high, so you can use the bus as transport medium which cost €1.30 for 2hrs (can be purchased with the bus driver directly). Alternately, renting a car is also a good option as in some areas of the island, buses come every hour.
The network operators (sfr, orange, etc) are extremely expensive for tourists and can only be purchased in the operators' shops.

Saint-Denis is the capital of the island and is OK for a day to acclimatise to the island, there are many restaurants and shops, and the "Jardin de l'Etat", the city's botanical garden, is very nice. But there are no beaches or many touristy things to see. I would definitely not recommend staying there for the rest of the visit, but rather going to the West of the Island with the amazing beaches and easier access to the hiking in the mountains.

Try and be there on the 21st June as each year they have a band music festival, the central city streets are closed off and a large variety of bands set up and play all evening. There were also great food stalls set up on one of the streets, fantastic evening. Easy place to walk around during the day to see all the older houses, very good tourist info centre. The Coffee Shop serves amazing delicious food in a lovely environment, sorry can't remember the street name, it is in the centre of the city. Take a bus ride down the west coast to the beach for the cost of a few euros, good bus service.
Rameez at reception was friendly and helpful. He answered all my questions.
The shared dormitory has several outlets to charge your phone.
Clean, fresh towels and sheets were provided and the air conditioning worked very well. On the second day my pillow and towel were changed.
They also offered free coffee at the reception.
Very well located within 5 minutes walk from the Saint-Denis / l'Océan bus station and several supermarkets are nearby.
The hotel is located in the city centre and it’s walking distance to get food, to go to market, supermarket and shopping. Easy to go to bus station to move to other places. The cathedral of St Denis is very near to Central Hotel. Walking distance too to the park of l’Etat.
Central hotel provide security access to the room and good services.
The breakfast was excellent and i liked particularly the croissant!
I only popped into Reunion for one night (traveling between Mauritius and Seychelles) but this place was perfect for the evening -- good value for the island and convenient to airport, less than a 10-minute drive. The neighborhood is super quiet and the room was real cozy. The owner is nice and you can park in his driveway, made everything really easy. Thanks!
The Austral Hotel is in an excellent position to explore the centre of St Denis - just a few minutes walk to the shops and restaurants. Tip: Ask to loan a kettle in your room if you need to use one for making tea/coffee.
The museum is a 20 mins walk away and there are interesting shops and old residences to see on the walk,
The staff was friendly and helpful. The rooms was clean and tidy. For a two Star hotels I like everything about it. They do have a menu in the room for Chinese takeaway. I am not really into Chinese food or pizza. I would like local or creole food.
We had been many times before but not in this room, which we thought was very good (in the central part of the complex). Otherwise, my only comment is that this is the only high-standard hotel you can get in St. Denis centre.
