A beautiful beach front lodge in the fishing village of Kizimkazi. Perfect for a quiet getaway. The staff are very helpful and go out of their way to make you comfortable. For its remote location the facilities such as food, accomodation, internet and hot water in the shower were surprisingly good.

Outstanding hosts at Mandarin, feels just like home! We had a pleasant 2-nights stay and it was total relaxation for us. The ambience was great, very clean, all the staff were great, Chef Amir made the best of dishes (breakfast was also top notch) and extra stars for the GM Mr. Hany! There are different activities at Mandarin but unfortunately, we were only there to basically eat, sleep and enjoy the beach though I am sure they would be just as great. If you are looking for a great affordable place in Zanzibar then Mandarin Resort it is!

The location is magical, not many tourists around, very paceful and calm. Staff go an extra length to help with any wish you may have and are genuinly friendly.
There is a list of diferent dishes for the breakfast from which you can choose two... so there are many combinations and even if you stay longer you don't get bored by one and the same. Anyway it is difficult to skip the fruit platter so you just have to choose one ;-)

This place has an amazing ambient and a beautiful soul! It was like a hub for the coolest people from every country, looking for a peaceful, extremely relaxed vacation in a bit of wilderness, heartfelt conversations with alcohol next to the fire… it’s all in the package, and as a bonus you get one of the best teams - owners and staff members that are right there for you literally every minute.
Thank you all guys- Benjamin, Annick, Cliffton, Melania, Elisabeth and others whose names we did not get to know;) You were all so amazing that even after two weeks it was a pity to leave. We look forward to meeting you all again!
PS. A big thanks to Cliffton for recommending us Malaika, We enjoyed it to the fullest ;-)

It’s a very quiet and enjoyable place and you can book lots of activities from there but overall there is not much going outside the hotels. The public beach doesn’t have any good restaurants or shops so you’re pretty much tied to your resort.

The location is more quiet then other places, they do not have a beach like Kendwa but it you are just looking to relax a couple of days this does not matter. It is like on a little cliff, sooo nice!

Kizimkazi is a village, although in fact there are 2 distinct and separate areas, with 2 beaches. The rest of the area is comprised of large, private self-contained resorts with their own private stairways.
There is not much to explore, but boat owners offer big-game fishing and dolphin-watching.
There are only 2 restaurants, although some of the private resorts offer their restaurants to the public; but at a price.
Hardly any touting which is nice;
3 or 4 days is probably sufficient to see all there is to see.

Place was very clean, food was nice and staff were very friendly, always available to assist
They also organized transport for us to travel around
Pete(Rasta man) was very friendly and he gave me some plants to bring to South Africa, I have them in my garden now
Morning shower was terrible, water was always cold and it seemed like their geyser or boiler was faulty
Remote, quiet place with super friendly staff, good food and enough relax space, sunbeds and hamocks to enjoy this little piece of paradise.
By the way: I read in some comment that supposedly water bottles would cost 10$. We paid 2$ for a large bottle, which I think is fair given transportation etc.. I recommend asking the hotel for the pick-up from the airport, as it is not easy to find for anybody not familiar with the last kilometer. All in all we had a wonderful stay and are very grateful to the marvellous team at Kusini!
A great location - quiet, right on the beach, and within a large bay. Beautiful views from the shoreline and the garden that surrounds the hotel is very well designed and diligently tended. It provides an eden-like atmosphere.
The food was delicious and very well presented by smiling, attentive, and joyous staff.
As a very seasoned traveller with high expectations, our stay exceeded them in almost all areas.
Zanzibar is on the up, and I would recommend going now before it becomes busy!
Very friendly staff, everyone is ready to help if there are any problems! The vibe: hakuna matata! I will definitely recommend everyone I know to stay at Promised Land Lodge during their ZNZ visit.
Just keep in mind that it isn’t near big cities or so, but that was the reason we booked our stay there. Quiet place, friendlier people than in Stone Town (definitely!), all sorts of activities that you can do, forest vibes. I fell in love with Kizimkazi :) Asante sana for everything ❤️
Loved it!
Far from the madding crowd, peace and tranquility with amazing sunsets.
I liked round bungalows that resembles traditional african house. I haven’t seen anything like that around Zanzibar. Nice space with private bathroom and balcony. Neat and Clean. Very cool owners. Inspiring. Very kind staff. I have finally slept well and forgot about the whole world. Lala Land is indeed a good place to dream. Thank you guys for a beautiful time! Will be back!
Magnificent location. It's far from most things but that's precisely why you go there. It has a host of great facilities - pool, yoga, beach lounges and direct ocean/beach access. Unrivalled sunset location. The front desk staff were ok - a bit distant - but the rest of the staff were wonderful: the perfect balance of professional and personal - I felt like a brother and guest at the same time. I love the outdoor shower! And the food was great.
Mama Root is the perfect getaway in Zanzibar. The property is right on one of the most gorgeous and less touristy beaches, the hotel is small and intimate, the included breakfast is great (lots of fresh fruits fruits and your choice of eggs or pancakes), and the owners and staff are amazing and always checking in to make sure all your needs are met. This place is truly an amazing find. No notes.
The food was always freshly prepared and delicious! The iced ginger and lemongrass tea, which is on the house, was the best drink we had in Zanzibar!! The room was beautifully styled, and the outdoor shower was such a wonderful experience! On top of all of this, the hotel staff were always super friendly, kind and polite! We really enjoyed our stay! Thank you to the Kizikula team!
Lovely lodge. If you want to really get disconnected and away from city life, this is the place! All the huts are within 200ft of the beach and the lodge is isolated and quiet. But an easy walk into the local village of Kizimkazi, or a taxi ride to Jambiani, Paje and other haunts. Hotel owners are gracious and attentive and the staff delightful!
This is a very nice, very small paradise in the end of the world. Food was good, people very warmly welcoming and friendly. We only left the property for snorkeling right in front of the hotel. If you are looking for something that is NOT a huge resort and few people to enjoy the beautiful view on the sea and colours, this is great.
beautiful, cozy and private spot in nature with amazing sunsets and a perfect little private beach. The authentic food was absolutely delicious, the best we had on Zanzibar by far! The team makes you feel at home from the first minute! Enjoyed every minute here!
The property structure, facilities and staff are amazing. Everything is well kept, the location with its own beach access and the pools are exquisite. The food and drinks in the all inclusive package were very good and great value for money.
It is such a beautiful property and the amenities are great. I really recommend this stay if you just want to relax and enjoy Zanzibar from one location. Food was great, staff were amazing and kind, stunning beach, everything is superb.
The hotel facilities are very nice, especially the villas. We got a villa with a totally private pool but quite near to the main areas of the resort. The resort is quite big and there are bikes available to get aroud.
Beautiful place relax and cozy !
I can only recommand this hotel. The restaurant is delicious and meals are prepared with great taste.
The room was great and comfy. They take care of everything for a fair price
if you r looking for special simple place, very close to the beach and the fisherman village - this is your place! nice jungle beside the rooms and comfortable rooms.
