Monticello is the best base to visit The Needles District of Canyonlands National Park. It takes about an hour to get to the visitor center - if you do not make any stops on your way. But the surrounding nature is wonderful, so you probably make lots of stops to take photos. The road into the national park in Indian Creek Canyon is very scenic.
Monticello is a small and quiet town. There's nothing to do there except to spend your night. There are two pizza saloons (the medium pizza costs $15), a Mexican restaurant which had a growing line of customers in the evening and a Thai restaurant which is probably the most expensive in town (minimum $20 for a meal, no drinks).
Its worth to go and have a look at a Mormon temple on the edge of town - it is beautiful.

Lots of beautiful places accessible nearby.
Lots of beautiful places accessible nearby. Town is and has been a drab and boring place unless you live there. With a few exceptions it doesn’t hold much for travelers. Small grocery store, ample fuel stations, hospital. Not known for its restaurants.

Monticello is a convenient place to stay for visiting Canyonlands NP and other area attractions. We were there on a Sunday, and we found many of the restaurants closed, but the ones open offered enough choices of food to eat.

Has few retail opportunities.
Has few retail opportunities. Most of the restaurants are seasonal which ends on Sept 30th. There are three gasoline stations which seems adequate. This is the gateway to the Needles District of Canyonlands.

we wanted a place close to Needles section of Canyonlands NP. Many of the places we wanted to go were dirt roads requiring 4 wheel drive. we really could have stayed a day less. On the extra day we did enjoy a nice road trip to 4 corners and the Cortez, CO. The country is beautiful around here. Monticello was an the best stopping point for our purposes. We certainly could have eliminated one of the three nights, but it worked out.
I would have rated this room as Excellent if it weren't for the pet policy. The room was ideal, clean, spacious, comfortable, and the service was friendly and professional. I normally try to avoid places that allow pets. In this case we were on vacation and fully expecting to relax. Unfortunately, we were rudely awakened at 5:00 am due to a dog barking in the building very loudly. That ruined our whole stay.
The hotel was a good stop for my travel plans. The room was comfortable and spacious.
The hotel also has a Indoor pool and jacuzzi which I took advantage of after my long day of hiking.
Staff very friendly and helpful. Monticello is a good stop but doesn't have much options for restaurants so the hotel partners with a few take away/take out places who deliver directly to your room.
Authentic atmosphere, spacious room, very very clean, good benefits such as free coffee, tea and hot chocolate in the dining area, fast WiFi and free big parking. I would like to add that for this price is more than worth it, I have seen angry reviews about breakfast but come on people. Many hotels with higher price don’t provide breakfast and have much more to pay adds.
This motor inn was a very pleasant surprise. The rooms have been recently refurbished and were fresh and bright. The double glazing on the windows meant that there was no road noise, the shower was great and the towels were thick. The bed was comfortable and we had a good sleep. I would happily stay here again.
The Domes are tucked away and 5 minutes to 7-11. The dome itself is a work of art. I don’t know who their interior designer was but it is absolutely darling! Well lit with solar lights. We had a king bed that was hotel quality. It was wonderful! Mark and Sharon are super classy. Great hosts.
The room was in a former barn, along with a few other rooms. This makes for a very different experience from a regular hotel. There was a well-equipped shared kitchen and general area. We left an e-reader upon departure, which the staff found and mailed to another place we would stay at.
Clean , bright and spacious room/sheets. The washroom was very clean as well. There were enough towels provided and they smelled fresh. The town of Monticello is small and this is the perfect place to stay for 1 night if you are transiting through the city.
Nice place with generous, clean rooms at a reasonable rate. Since Monticello is tiny, it doesn't really matter a great deal where exactly in town you are, but the Atomic Blue is in as good a location as any. It's also relatively close to Monument Valley.
the Location was private and very nice. I did not see anyone for the week I was on site. thank you and your staff. i stay in hotels for work and with no avaibilty i picked here instead very good choices and will stay on site in the future if possible
The room was very nice. Quaint. We were in #7 on the top floor. Nice beds w/Purple brand mattresses. Comfortable bed. Dinner at the inn was nice. Great service from Jaylee. Everyone friendly. Cool atmosphere.
The Atomic Blue Motor-Inn is a gem in the Utah roughness! The room was fresh and clean and very vibrant with cool retro touches. Will definitely stay here again when I return to Utah for more explorations.
Really cool to stay at a dome. We woke up at 2am to watch the stars and Milky Way, no light pollution around. My family really enjoyed the experience. They are dog friendly as well.
The bed was comfortable the inn is adorable, and there is always someplace to sit other than the bed. We always stay there when in Monticello. We won't get room 6 again.
Everything. Manager was friendly and made sure all our needs were met. I go to Monticello often and Wayside will always be my first choice for accommodations
Very good hotel in the convenient location, right on the main street. It was convenient to stop on my way. Staff was helpful. Room was clean and spacious.
Cheap and cheerful. The receptionist was particularly friendly and helpful, and gave us a great steer for an excellent Thai dinner just a walk into town.
