San Simeon is a great spot for quiet relaxation.
San Simeon is a great spot for quiet relaxation. It's right by the ocean and has several restaurants. It's also just a few minutes drive to Cambria if you want to go for a nice walk on the Moonstone Beach walkway right by the ocean, and then another short drive to Cambria's cute little town.

The ocean was beautiful.
The ocean was beautiful. It was great seeing the elephant seals, and all their babies, lots and lots of babies everywhere. Every female seem to have a baby was happy to see the her castle from afar could not take my puppies, so I could not go on the tour. Next time I will go on the tour I will find a pet sitter.

San Simeon is just one of those cool places that are not over crowded by people and businesses. Different places to stop and explore along this part of the coastline. Besides having Hearst Castle, you can check out the elephant sea lions area and a lighthouse. Just south of San Simeon you have a quick drive over the Moonstone Beach and another 20 min south you have Morro Bay. I think it is a great place to stay when you don't want to be in one of the bigger beach towns, its a more down to earth place when you want to just be in one of the small cozy towns.

San Simeon state Beach is perfect for families.
San Simeon state Beach is perfect for families. It's not crowded like Pismo or windy like Avila. Perfect for families. Affordable restaurant options are limited for large families. None really unless you eat at the mini mart.

We are from Southern California, so other than being cooler than expected and overcast in the morning in August, the weather was great. The scenery is picturesque and there is tons to do. The hotel gave us a guidebook/map of the area and it listed so many fun activities, way more than you can do in a weekend vacation. Of course, Hearst Castle is the star. We did not get to see the lighthouse due to odd hours. We couldn't even park nearby to just take pictures. Cambria is only five miles away for shopping and dining and Harmony is just another five miles south for ice cream, photos, and gift shopping.
Beautifully maintained grounds, stunning views over the coast. the food in the restaurant was delicious and very reasonably priced considering the isolated location. Room service was good too, we had a lovely breakfast in the room. Our room had a fireplace and balcony overlooking the sea and was very clean and spacious with a comfortable bed. The hotel also has a few cats on site but we only managed to see one! The staff onsite were also excellent!
Wow! Hidden gem of a hotel overlooking the Pacific Coast right off Highway 1. I don't think the pictures did the place justice. It definitely exceeded our expectations. We booked two rooms and they had interconnecting doors. A fireplace, which actually came in handy for the night we were there, in August! Go for the room with a patio, it's worth it! The room service food from the restaurant was really nice!
Though food not great, restaurant staff and all staff at hotel was very attentive and friendly. Cleaning staff also very nice.
Room was comfortable with most amenities.
Location is fabulous right on the water with lots of open space. Location was terrific for exploring southern Big Sur a half hour north and towns and beaches just south like Cambria!
We needed a late check in and the procedure was very smooth. The staff was very friendly and warned us about road closures and the detour we had to take. We liked the location near Hearst Castle. We didn’t really hope for a breakfast so anything was better than nothing. I’m a Triumph bike fan so I loved the logos and the bike in the lobby.
The location is very good. Close to Hearst Castle which is what we were visiting. From the outside San Simeon Lodge looks great. Attractive paint job and beautiful pool. Gardens are well tended. Nice restaurant connected. Front office staff very friendly. Nice balcony also. Plenty of electrical outlets.
We wanted just a sleepover place, nothing spectacular, so we were positively surprised by nice reviews and also low price of this place. It is really value for money - spacious clean room with big bed and good location if you want to explore San Simeon and other interesting places nearby.
I stay at this hotel Everytime I'm passing thru San Simeon, it's under new ownership I noticed this time which is a plus because great upgrades have been done and just enjoyed the retro themed rooms and the beds were the best along with everything else.
Very friendly and nice staff. Warm and good size pool. Fireplace outside back of the hotel. Close to the beach, close by is also the pier. Low price. Hearst Castle is good place visit and is a short drive distance (ca 8km) from the hotel.
Location right by the highway close to the beach in San Simeon was a big plus. Rooms were airy and comfortable. Breakfast had a decent spread and the people at reception were very helpful. A great place to stay when visiting San Simeon.
Spacious clean room, great location. Everything was OK
Breakfast in the restaurant in another hotel (next to ours) - coffee or juice with toast or muffin (or voucher worths 5USD to use in this elegant restautant)
Breakfast was great. Location is beautiful. Staff are so nice and friendly. This is one of my favorite spots for San simeon.. beach is across what more can you want. Very relaxing. Perfect!!!
This place is a gem! The place is clean, the staff is helpful, near Cambria and Moonstone. The rooms are always clean and the Julia Morgan art around the hotel is very nice.
Hotel was clean and staff were welcoming. Rooms were a great size and hotel was conveniently placed just off Highway 1.
Free parking was available as well.
Just love being away for the weekend we didn't have to drive far to come to Cambria or San Simeon. We had a fantastic time and we were very comfortable.
