Vibrancy, Vespas, Vesuvius
Undulating beside the Bay of Naples, this UNESCO World Heritage city is a maze of narrow streets and funicular railways. Although it has an incredible array of churches and monuments, it’s the sheer energy, pulsating life, and buzz of Vespas that really make it exciting.
At first you could mistake this for chaos, but given time you’ll see there’s method to the madness. The stunning, curved portico of the Royal Palace. The perfectly thin pizzas which originated here. The red pepper trinkets to ward off the evil eye adorning practically every old town doorway. All are crafted to perfection.
While all this goes on at street level, below is Underground Naples – a series of visitable tunnels and even a Graeco-Roman theatre which you stop at before emerging into someone’s house!
Head up to the Posillipo area for stunning views of the city and Vesuvius in the distance. The volcano itself can be visited and looking down from it towards Pompeii and Herculaneum gives context to the thousands of artefacts now on display in the city’s National Archaeological Museum.

We have been to Naples many times. It is fabulous and it has so lot to offer. This time we were only passing by and stayed only one night. This time we found EXCELLENT cocktail bar called Tappó in the area of Piazza Giovanni Bovio. Professional bartender with lots of ideas and great recommendations, lovely cocktails, very low prices (and when you compare them wit the quality!!!) and nice and delicious portion of antipasti is included!

We liked a lot the city, the history, the environment and the people. Favorite spots: Old city (Spaccanapoli), Vomero, Ercolano, Amalfi, Positano. Travelling in and around Napels is easy and cheap. There is always bus, train or metro while getting a taxi is easy.Walking around is also very interesting. We prefer eating on the street, together with locals. If you want to stay out of Naples centre, this area is lovely, pedestrianised, and has families walking out until 11:00pm. It’s so nice. The lift is entertaining, part of the quirks of being a local.
