On a recent trip from Cancale to Paris, we found ourselves in need of a place to rest after a long day of hiking and indulging in Cancale's famous oysters. It was late, and options for high-rated accommodations were few. However, we came across CHATEAU DU BOULAY MORIN, an old French-style chateau just a few kilometers from the highway, listed on Booking.com. The chateau is located in a serene rural area, tucked behind a long stone fence and vintage-style gates. We arrived late without prior notification, and with our internet data exhausted, we were anxious about whether the staff would still be available to check us in. To our relief, the gates swung open at the press of a button, welcoming us into a silent and magical retreat. The property is nestled within roughly 40 hectares of well-maintained forest and 3 hectares of beautifully manicured gardens. The quiet ambiance, paired with the charm of the chateau's exterior, immediately gave us a sense of calm and tranquility. We were warmly greeted by a receptionist who, despite our late arrival, went above and beyond to ensure our comfort. He even managed to arrange some food for us, knowing that we had missed our dinner. The interior of the chateau exudes a cozy, if somewhat outdated, charm, reminding more of a family home than a typical hotel, adding to the unique experience. In the morning, we learned that the property is managed by the young children of the owners. The elder, a former lawyer, shared the captivating history of the chateau and their family as they served us a delicious breakfast. The personal touch and stories made us feel like we were guests in a family home rather than customers in a hotel, giving our stay an intimate and friendly atmosphere. This quaint chateau may not boast the glitz and glamour of a typical 4 or 5-star hotel, but it offers a uniquely charming experience that leaves an indelible mark on your memory.

The entire staff was so lovely and accommodating. We loved the period touches like beautiful wallpapers and charming atmosphere. Coming home at night with the hotel lit up felt like we were stepping back in time. The breakfast was excellent, with homemade yogurt and jams and excellent croissants and more. We also loved learning about the hotel’s fascinating history. It was a remarkably nice place to stay near our family for our visit.

This is a lovely little hotel where you whish you could spend a week. Like an old fashioned holiday hotel, but with a modern approach. A short stroll to the amazing beaches. Don't forget to book your dinner, the restaurant is great, as is the breakfast.

From the moment we checked in to the time we left, the staff was amazing. My husband and I were beyond impressed with the attention to detail and all the “little things”. They went above and beyond to accommodate our stay and made our last evening in France extra special. Our favorite part was the breakfast delivered to the room in the cutest little basket. The family with three children had a vacation. The hotel exceeded expectations. The room was clean and had everything necessary for relaxation, except for toiletries. There was crisp white bedding, plenty of dishes, a kettle, a toaster, and cookware. Everything advertised on the website was present in the room. It takes 10-15 minutes to walk to the beach. It's a very beautiful place with a convenient location if you have a car. There was a pool and a hammam on the premises.
