Set along the ancient Tiburtina Valeria road, this impressive 19th-century estate is surrounded by a large park in the Abruzzo countryside. I had breakfast and dinner in the restaurant, both were very good.

The Manhattan is a modern property located at the edge of the Maiella National Park, 2 km from Sulmona, and a 20-minute drive from the ski slopes in Roccaraso. OMG the lovely lady who, when I called from the station organised a taxi to the hotel.

Hotel Santacroce Meeting is a 5-minute drive from the centre of Sulmona, just outside Parco Nazionale della Maiella. Its garden features a swimming pool with hot tub and a sunbathing area. We've gone to this hotel on many occasions as UK people touring Italy and it never fails us.
